B16a2 or b18c1 with what turbo?
Hey guys i have recently got a 99 civic dx and love it, have been putting money into little things like new headlights, hids, short shift, cold air intake, ect.. But what i really wanna do is an engine swap with a b series and boost it. I know i want either a b16a2 or a b18c1 (i am open to sudgestions though). But what i wanna know is which will work best with what size/type of turbo, and if there is a huge price difference between the two. Thanks guys! New at this honda tuner thing but i have done a fair bit of work on cars and have been doing some research around this too
I've had both motors n/a in my si and the gsr feels alot better. Also i'm sure the b18 would spool a bigger turbo then the b16. As for cost, its kinda difficult to find a usdm b16a2 and when you do they are over priced. However you can find a jdm b16a for fairly cheap compared to the b18c1 which averages over 2k for a complete swap
I would suggest asking these questions in the Forced Induction section.
And be careful with those short shifters...you can damage you tranny real fast.

I have never seen a short shifter damage a trans.
You are in the wrong area this is for all motor talk.
But to answer your questions go B18 you will enjoy the larger motor and more tq it brings. As for a turbo it all depends on your goals. You just want a fast DD street car the go with a Garrett T3T4 50 trim .63 AR stage 3 turbo. If you want 400+ something like a Reaper or a 6262 would be more suitable I would think.

Maybe I should have worded it different.
The shifter doesn't damage the trans, the driver damages the trans when using the short-throw while bangin gears. The synchros can't keep up and soon you will have grinding in the upper rpms. The best shift combo is the oem gold linkage with R lever.

I think that is more driver error. You should not be banging gears in any car unless it is a built drag car with beefed up trans that can take it. Smooth steady but quick shifts. I think bad linkage bushings play a role in this as well, not getting the gear lined up correctly while shifting.
Head on over to the FI Section... Folks will set ya straight.. Not very friendly ( so be careful) but will set ya straight nontheless

We can be friendly... it's just rare :p
You haven't stated a power goal, fuel, or purpose of the car so we can't really be descriptive
As far as the short shifter goes most can't relearn how to operate the clutch properly with the quicker gear changes as a result of the shifter which means most people end up killing a synchro or two
