shhhhhhh...keep that swap noise down, you'll attract the K20 vs B Series vs H/H2B Series arguments!!!!

Re: which motor responds better to modification (Probot)
I've owned a B16A2 and a B18C1 at the exact same time in identical 1992 Si hatches - I drove the B18C1; my wife drove the B16A2.
Both engines respond the same to bolt-on mods, but the B18C1 starts off with more whp and MUCH more torque.
I dyno'd both cars on the same dyno, same day, etc. and both cars had the usual i/h/e mods except the B16A2 was a cold air - the B18C1 was a short ram.
B18C1 - 150whp; 122ft-lbs. or torque and a MUCH fatter powerband
B16A2 - 143whp and 102ft-lbs. of torque and the typical midrange dip pre-VTEC
Both drove very well, but at any gear, any speed, and at any rpm the B18C1 would walk away from the B16A2. Peak numbers can be deceiving when looking at whp, but the torque is undeniable. the power curve is sooo much fatter for the B18C1. People can quote numbers all day but I got to drive the cars A/B back to back daily for over a year before I upgraded to a B18C5, so I've got a lot of experience directly comparing the two.
You can pull off nicely in higher gears in a B18C1 because of the torque - the B16A2 pulls great, but you need to drop down an extra gear and really hammer it well past 6700rpm before the power really rushes on.
If you can afford either swap my suggestion is hands down B18C1. It's great to build all motor, boost, or leave stock.

Well I didn't see K20 as an option, so why do you guys keep talking about it?
The cost of a B swap and a K swap are not even in the same league. Unless this guy wants to spend an extra $3,000 or more than a B swap why you even throwing the K20 swap **** in there?

Everyone is just trying to get their e-***** stroked. God knows I would love to spend 7-10K on a swap just to turn around and throw bolt-ons on the motor and put down 220 to the wheels or so. That would be my choice... *sarcasim*
To all those who can't read and said K20.

oh god get off it.
the title says "which motor responds better to modification"
not limited to anything.

says hes gonna do a swap... says he cant decide... wants a b18 and also wants a b16, BUT he wants "one" that's going to respond well to bolt-ons. he says nothing about only choosing form either a b18 or b16. so someone elaborates with a k20, so ******* what, listen to your guys bitching.
IMO a b18 on a b16 transmission would suit you fine, that is if your only choosing from a B series.
