Engine difference???
Ok guys,
I did this screwdriver trick I saw on youtube about finding rod knocks. Found it in cylinder #1. I'm not sure if I scored my crankshaft in the process because the first time I heard the knock it was at idle and it's always only at idle.
The same morning I drove it about 6 blocks when I started the car then back @2500 rpm to my house and no knocking. Didn't drive it after that only started it to record the videos I posted. I'm very low on cash & was hoping bearing replacement on every rod.
But here's my real question.
I started looking for a similar replacement engine in case I get some money, but does it matter if it came from a car with manual transmission or not? Mine's an auto!!!
And what are the chances the crank isn't scored beyond repair?

so what year and model do you own? What type of engine is in it now? What is your budget? Do you want more power? Do you want to switch to manual? Do you want to have to change wiring?

Stop guessing and examine the crank. We don't do guessing games here.
If you want to save yourself any hassle get a like-for-like- replacement. The engines are not the problem. The intake manifolds are.

you could always buy a short block(no head even) and just swap it out, imo that's cheaper/easier then the alternative. no it doesn't have to be from an auto keep your tranny and current head. im guessing this is a Y8 or Y7 we're talking about.
I'm noob with the engine block thing. This (short) would come with the rods & the whole bottom end right?

Ok I'll look into this shortblock. And if you guys know where I could get one & the average cost. I'd pay for shipping too.
Thank you so much for y'all help!!!

search around I'm sure you know someone who has a hatch/truck that could help you cart it home ,y8 short block shouldn't be more than 200-300$ or so at least a decent shape one.
And thank you a thousand times for your help.
y7 and y8 share the same bottom end you'd just end up with a "mini-me" which has a slightly higher CR iirc than the y8 nothing special just saying. you can probably get a y7 bottom easier/cheaper than a y8 as ppl let those go for 100-200$.
