Desperate, please help! Oil Pan Gasket Replacement = Loud Noise
Hello everyone, I am new to the forums. I am in dire need of assistance and came across this site. I hope I'll be able to troll around more and learn a great deal!
EDIT: My apologies as I didn't list the vehicle make: 1996 Acura Integra LS 4 Door automatic (Nearly 280,000 miles and "still" running strong)
I'm not a mechanic but am capable of doing a little more than just the basics. I just replaced my oil pan gasket. I removed the dust shield, down pipe, oil drained, removed and cleaned surface for gasket replacement, and followed every necessary steps down to torque specs and order. I was pretty careful with every step. After installing everything back in reverse order, I started up the engine and I am now hearing a very loud vibrating/clicking sound. So loud or to the point where I don't leave the engine running for more than 10 seconds as it worry's me. (yes, I did add new oil and filter.)
Any immediate feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Did you remove or do anything at all with the oil pickup? Does the red oil light on the dash go off? Check the dust shield isn't making contact with anything.
At first I was thinking possibly an air leak between the headers and down pipe but it wouldn't and shouldn't even make a noise "that" intense.
I'll go through everything and check step by step.
BTW: IF the oil pick isn't picking up / pumping any oil, would that noise be a result?
Checked the oil light....nothing on.
*arg!*
Checked oil again. No light. Checked dip stick. Plenty of oil. No leaks.
Further looking into pinpointing the location.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I just realized that I didn't post the vehicle make. 1996 Acura Integra LS automatic with appx 280,000 miles.
The car's still running strong but it's been having excessive leakage.
After replacing the oil pan gasket, there's no sign of noticeable leakage (around oil pan).
There is some leakage around the transmission. Now looking into it. Would low level transmission fluid/oil be a result in the noise?

Did you remove the starter when you did this? Doesnt even sound like it starts to me.. Does your oil light come on with the key on engine off?
Trending Topics
I did an oil pan gasket replacement. I touched nothing except removing the dust shield, down pipe, and oil pan. The noise is the result after everything was re-installed.
When the key is in the ignition (turned once - engine off), the usual oil light, battery light, and SRS lights are on. When the ignition key is turned all the way (engine start on), no oil, engine, or warning lights are on except for the ABS light (The ABS is fuse disabled).
Any more thoughts anyone? I'm going crazy here.
is the motor idling at a normal rpm?? by the sounds of the video its taking off and bouncing off the red line as soon as you start it. to be honest it dosent sound like theres a gut wrenching metal on metal sound. you should check your throttle cable or throttle positioning sensor. make sure nothings stuck unplugged or gummed up?
and also did you replace any exhaust gaskets while you had it off?

After the engine shuts down, a very faint and diminishing metal sound/noise occurs at the very end, as if metal to metal. It sounds more or less like a light rub or scraping chime, not anything gut wrenching or scratchy. Not anything you can really hear on the video, unfortunately.
I'm taking a break from this headache, so I'll try to assess the location of the noise soon.
Thanks again!

I forgot to mention, no I did not replace any exhaust gaskets. I was going to replace the exhaust gaskets but thought id see if I really needed it before purchasing the gaskets. But this doesn't seem to be relevant as the noise frequency is the same with or without the downpipe/exhaust bolted on. I could be wrong?
AHHH, so a friend of mine saw the video and the best way to describe the sound is like a chainsaw.
Any other feedback would be great! Thanks everyone!
Is this really the best you can do video-wise ? From only in the video it's obvious the car is not starting. Atleast not during the video above. I've never in my life heard a sound like that but it's not really clear what it is because the video is so ******* awful. My first guess is the starter is seriously effed up.
Hey guys, thanks for the reply's and my appologies for the late update. I've been very busy. The issue was resolved. After further diagnosing the issue, the noise was actually coming from the dust plate/shield (located on transmission) adjacent to the oil pan. Although careful, I may have bent it unoticeably and ever so slightly (as it was already bent out of shape) creating friction when the engine was running, hence the rotory screeching sound. Yep, that was the problem!
Everything turned out great and the car runs like a champ! Unfortunately, I am now having another issue. It's been nearly a month and the oil light is turning on. The oil has been checked and there are no leaks. The oil light typically lights up when the car has been sitting in the sun.
Engine temperature (gauge) is normal.
Oil level is perfect.
No leaks.
Currently using Castro full synthetic 10w30 oil.
*been using synthetic since 200k miles. Currently at 284k miles.*
The only thing I can think of is the oil pump and/or pressure due to the heat/hot weather?
Possibly the viscosity being to thick affecting oil pressure?
I thought about doing an engine flush but with over 280k miles, I'm thinking it'll make things worse (based on my findings/readings).
Regarding the Video: "better footage" wouldn't have helped much as it was more for audio purposes.
Any thought? Thanks again....!!
