anyone dropped their oil pan down before?
i dropped my oil pan today cuzz a couple nuts were insde of it just running around loose that had came loose from the oil pick up line... what i was wondering is if u guys just put the gasket on the oil pan and put it up liek that or did u guys put RTV sealer like the Haynes Honda books says... and last was wich side of the gasket goes up towards the engine cuzz one side has 2 lines running down that side and the other side is completely flush... this is for my b16 by the ways

i used RTV when i put mine back on after tapping it for a turbo oil drain. i think i put the flat side of the gasket up since there is a groove in the pan for it.

you need to get all the crap from the old gasket cleaned off the oilpan and the bottom of the motor. The gasket will only fit one way, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out, and yes, you'll want to put a little RTV

No RTV unless you helms calls for it.
Most cars 92+ don't use it anymore.
put gasket flat side facing up.
Don't forget about the washwers on the flywheel side. Make sure you removed the old ones before you put the new gasket on. They are inside the gasket but sometimes stick to the block when taking the gasket off.

Put some rtv or the grey hondabond stuff around each arch at the ends and put a small film along the entire gasket just to hold it in place. This is how my factory Honda service manual recommends

yeah i figured out the gasket that wasnt very hard.... but this old gunky rty or whatever they used before is gettin on my nerves.. its liek silicone its hella rubberish tho.. hard to get off what did u guys use?

Are you kidding? Most cars still use something quite similiar to RTV. I use it at work all the time, it is made by permatex and it is called "The Right Stuff"

oh well i started cleaning it off by using a really tuf wire brush... its taking the slicone stuff right off and the paint with it also...lol

you should go get a "gasket remover tool". i basically looks like a flat chisel. a careful hand and a razor blade also works. just be sure not to cut up the surface at all

i dropped the pan on my honda cause the gasket was leaking and fucked up my clutch so i just removed the gasket and ceaned everything and made my own gasket out of MOPAR RTV sealer. mopar seales everything.

Rubber gasket right. Believe you use a little sealant in the corners. Using too much will make the gasket squeeze out. Make sure you dont torque the bolts down to hard. snug the bolts up rotating then torque them down. Have done this couple of A20 same concept. Nother tip use some 3m spray adhesive lightly on oilpan side of the gasket and it will help keep gasket in place.
