Default H&R Springs not quite low enough

Recently I lowered my '01 V on H&R springs. I like how much the back came down but I feel like the front isn't low enough. The springs only have about 600 miles on them so I'm not about to ditch them already for coilovers so soon; and I'm definately not going to heat or cut them so, is there a cheap way to get just a little more low in the front end? Or am I stuck with them until I decide to go for coilovers? My only idea would be to use a shorter strut fork? But I don't know how well, if at all, that would work. Any suggestions?

I had the same problems and asked around and found that a lot of guys have removed the front fork alignment tab(the little tack welded tab on the shocks that stop the fork from going any higher) to lower their front suspension. Since my front sat higher than my rear, I went ahead and tried it and was able to have my front sit a tab bit lower than my rear. I also did this mod on my buddy's V and his sat perfectly too. The only thing that you have to do with this mod and I'm sure with all other suspension lowering mods with our Vs is having to grind the front control arms so they don't get stuck in the upper fender well. I know both mine and my buddy's Vs got stuck since we didn't trim'em enough and both hit the same pot holes since we live right by each other.

wouldn't that only give you about another 1/4"?

Over torquing of suspension parts and improper installation can cause an uneven ridehight.

if you looked and measured the distance of the bottom of the shock, yes. That's exactly what I was thinking too...however it's completely different after you make the adjustments and drop the car. It's really kinda odd...but if you lower the car 1/4" on the fork, it actually lowers it about 1" or so on the actual suspension. I'm no suspension guru but that's what I've experienced on my V and my buddy's.

Here's an old picture of how my V sits after lowering the fork about 1/2". I'm running 18's w/225/45/18 tires.

So do you just grind off the small tab or the whole lip type piece? Do you have to make a new relief for the clamp bolt?

the small tab on the bottom of the shocks are just tack welded on. All you need is a flat head and a hammer to knock it off. it really doesn't do anything other than align the ride height(where the fork should stop). All I did was remove those and measured the bottom of both shocks about 1/2" from where the original fork alignment stopped the fork and installed the fork on and tightened normally. You won't need anything extra other than that.

do you need to remove the whole strut or can you just pull off the fork? Also, will it really be low enough to need the control arm ground? got any more pics of this method in action?

The only thing with grinding that tap off, is that is for alinement with the fork. It keeps the strut from turning in it, which can happen with it gone, and if it does do that, it mite unspin the nut on the top lose, and start making noise.

Is it possible i could just break the spot welds, slide the piece up and reweld it? also what about the relief for the clamp bolt?

I just thought of something. Couldnt I just take a die grinder to the inside of the fork? That seems easier to me because you'd only have to remove the fork to do it and you preserve the little lip on the stut itself.

To be honest I've seen this happen even on stock struts. It happened on my brother's and parents' CRVs where the top nut came loose. These were on stock struts too....

Would swapping to civic or integra strut forks work? or are they the same same size? even if they were shorter, would they bind the axle?

Thank you. Looks like I'll either try to remove the aligning ring or maybe ream out the fork to slip over it

Getting civic struts will give you a lower ride height. But am not sure if the springs will work on it.
