Ok we'll I'm kinda torn. I've had my car for about 8 years finally got it running good went 11.47 @122 on 19psi 24.4x9 slicks. This was on its 3rd pass I know with seat time I can def break a 10. This is a 2001 ITR full interior and speakers. Only problem is I only drive the car about 10 times a year. I def got the racing bug again and wanted opinions would you rather have a street car that can go low 11 high 10 or go all out racing. I will only do it if only changing a couple things in my set up can make me go 9s . It's a gsr head and block. Head fully built with port job by extrude home. Full race kit wit a 60- 1 hondata s300 bbg. Block is 81.5 wiseco eagle stock sleeves car made 493whp at 19 psi. Budget to try and go 9s is 5k
my opinion is that if you only drive it 10x a year, go for the race setup.
while i dont drive my 11 sec street car much in the winter if there is a ton of salt on the road, i definitely drive it on nights and weekends when the weather warms up. its a good compromise

its do-able. my car was a full interior non-cut street car with heat and wipers. my build thread is on here somewhere. drove the car every chance i could. made 693whp on stock sleeves and ebay clutch. best time in it was 10.5 on 20psi. was on it way to 9's but i sold the setup completely and it just went 10.2 in an eg at honda day.
trick is to keep it simple. on the street i only ran the wastegate. if you dont want to run a twin disc try the new super singles out. the seem to be working pretty well.

5k isn't going to get you from a 11.5 to a 9.9. Price goes up exponentially as soon as you hit the 10.9 range. That extra second will likely cost twice your budget.

My car is running around the same times you are and I drive it less than you do. But keeping it off the street helps avoid any tickets or wrecks on the street.
A 450-500hp setup is also good to start out with, but you'll want to go faster after a few times out, as you're seeing.
Every car is different, nonvtecallmotor went 9's with ~650hp (if im remembering a post of his a few weeks back), every car and driver is just different.

You can go 10's on stock sleeves if the car is setup properly.. Such as chopping up the car, suspension.. Buddy of mine made 540 on stock sleeves and went 10.40's hitting the limiter before the line

For me the car made a little over 500whp was out of pump, injectors,Turbo, needed sleeves
So the next step was to turn it in to a track car and to do that was another $10k
I made the decision to leave the Honda I loved so long and buy a S14 240sx and put a 2j in it for around the same cost and have a car that will be much faster and more streetable, it's not the way to go for every one but I just couldn't see myself owning a car that I couldn't drive daily if I wanted to

Leave it a street car. For one, you say that you have a full interior 2001 ITR. A limited production car. I would not cut it up or do anything to it personally, as those cars are obviously more rare and would probably be worth more if it were closer to all original.
A $5k budget is a tight budget to work within if you are planning on making it more of a race car. Cage, turbo, turbo mani, etc. That stuff adds up super quick.
Personally, I would leave it the way it is and have fun with it. People often forget that a mid to low 11 sec street car is still a fast car!!! And to bring it up again, it's an ITR, I am partial to those cars and could not see myself cutting it up any at all to make it a race car unless it was a theft recovery or something along those lines.

Yea the car is beautiful only thing not worth as much. Gsr stamped motor salvage history. Don't get me wrong I put 25 k into the car it's beautiful but not worth as much as an original non molested R and I would save all parts to return To stock if I had to
