Default 98 CIVIC CX tuning suggestions

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 98 CIVIC CX and I am ready to do some work on it.

I would like to switch the radiator and fan first, follow by spark plug and battery.

As this is my first tunning project and I want get the thing done correctly. I would like to ask for your idea about what radiator + fan to get? Do I have to get hoses too?

after the radiator is ready, what else should I do do next?

The car is now lowered with springs and installed with intake and muffler. I will leave those at those moment for right now.

Any ideas and suggestion are greatly appreciated! thanks again~

why are you replacing the radiator and fan?

It's old and I wanna change it....i know maybe it's not a good place to start but I have it off already....

Unless your rad and fan are bad there is not need to replace it on a stock car. Unless you want an aluminum rad for looks because that is all it would be for at this point. Yes you should replace the hoses if they are old when you do the rad. I would personally get it running tip top, then suspension and brake upgrades first, then a good intake header and exhaust

Start replacing everything. These cars are getting pretty old and I think people keep forgetting that. In some cases you're not talking about maintenance but restoration. If you haven't you BETTER be scheduled to perform a full tune-up and maybe even the timing belt/water pump if they haven't been done.

As for "tuning" a CX? Don't even bother unless you're trying to get more gas mileage out of it.

Waste of money.



OP, figure out your goals for the car and your budget first, that will help you more than anything else.

I think these engines only make like 72 hp, and as far making them any more powerful it is pretty much impossible as they were purposely built to get better fuel mileage. At this point you either swap something else in or just perform maintenance as stated above. Good luck either way!

Basic maintenance/tune up. Just make it reliable at this point and do a lot of research. Spend money on quality parts, it will save you cash and headaches in the long run
