2000 Honda Civic si been sitting for 2 years
I have a 2000 Civic SI that has been sitting around my house for 2 years. I'm in the military and want to get it running again so I can be able to drive. What things should I do to it to make sure it runs properly?

A car sitting that long I'd immediately change radiator fluid and oil, check ignition components for corrosion and/or wear, jump start and replace the dead battery if necessary. Make sure your brakes still work. I'd be worried about the residual fuel in the lines that probably wasn't stabilized, and is no longer viable (after 6 or so months gasoline will become gelatinous and decomposes into what smells of rotten eggs). If that is the case you will need to clean the fuel system (fuel tank, lines, pump, filter, fuel rail, injectors)

Then when running troubleshoot accordingly any issues that arise,
With 2 years I would say expect something, although I wish you luck,
My Em1 sat for 3 years and half of everything was worn, noisy, failed.
But it was beat by previous owner.

If he hasn't turned I over, I would pull the plugs and spray some "fogging oil" in the CC's. If it's been sitting that long the cylinder walls are going to scar like hell without any oil on them!

Yeah change oil, coolant, trans fluid, replace battery, check for tune up and do a fuel system service on it to get any gunk out from 2 year old fuel.
2 years is not that long for a car to sit so I would not worry about the motor being locked up or "scaring the cylinder walls". Most of the JDM motors we get or motors from auto wreckers sit for more than 1-2 years before we swap then into our Hondas. My B18B1 sat on a pallet for 3 years almost before I bought it and I and no issues other than a leaky oil pan gasket. Assuming the car was not stored out in harsh weather it should be all good.

Is it a good idea to pull the plugs and turn the starter first before trying to start it for real the first time? That way it doesn't fire and everything gets lubed up? Just curious if that works.

Same thing happened to me when I bought the EM1 I own now. Sat in some old guys drive way. Hood faded and everything. It sat for about the same length of time after the guy got disabled. He was the original owner too....
Good luck man, I hope after you do what others have suggested that everything turns out alright.

How well did you store it? My car sat for a year while I was stationed in Korea. All I did was add fuel stabilizer and put it on jackstands in my aunts barn. Came back and it cranked right up.
