Hello I have a 1994 eg hatch with a b18c1 and it has been starting weakly and i thought I'd check the codes and its throwing a 6,7,10, and 21. I was just wondering how I should approach this, 6 is ECT, 7 is TPS( I do believe I need to adjust the tps slightly)10 is the IAT and 21 is vtech solenoid (should I just clean this and reinstall it?? please let me know what I should do. The car starts at idles at around 1-200 rpms when cold but when the engine warms up it idles at around 1300 thanks for reading!

 

Reset the ECU to clear the codes and then run the engine or drive the car to see whether any or all codes return/repeat.

 

okay and what would be the easiest way to go about that? and assuming they do come back on where should I start?

Thanks for that information. I am pretty sure they are not repeats but will check a little later. In the meantime what can I do to try and troubleshoot each code?

 

Don't get ahead of yourself. It's unclear whether all the codes you posted are relevant. Start with what I suggested in post #2.

 

alright they all are still there after I reset my ECU. what should I start with???

 

Gonna start with the code #6 (ECT) I did some digging and found a few great flow charts to go by.

If I can sucessfully troubleshoot my way through that I'm going to adjust my TPS so its voltage is .45v closed throttle (CORRECT?) to get rid of my code #7
THEN its on to the only one I was UNABLE to find a flowchart on #10 (IAT) I am seeking some help with this one as I was unable to find any help regarding this.
and FINALLY after all that I will troubleshoot my way through my VTECH #21

If I do everything my car should have NO CEL when im done but need some FEEDBACK ON THE IAT #10 code as I do not know ho i should troubleshoot this one. Thanks for reading

 

the IAT is a sensor on the side of your intake manifold that reads the temperature of air entering the intake and adjusts the fuel accordingly. if you have a code then chances are your sensor is bad. just swap it out with a junk yard one or trace the wiring to check that if you would prefer before buying a new sensor.

 

It's very unusual to throw so many codes out of the blue. Is this a new swap? Is this related to some recent work that was done?

 

I had a family friend do a ring and valve job for me in the fall and I'm not sure exactly what happend but I drove it for a bout a week and then one day I was in 2nd and it popped like started smoking. Now that was right before winter so i stored and and now took it out and its not really smoking (at least not much) just changed oil ect. but has been starting poorly in the cold especially REALLY low RPM's on startup and lots of hesitation until warm

 

I am going to try and get all the problems assessed and order the new sensors if needed today. Feedback would be awesome thanks !
