Default built lsv what oil to run?

b18a1 block, gsr head, wiseco 81.5mm 13:1 pistons. I put honda genuine 5w-30 in, but she tends to smoke a little oil. I let it warm up before driving, but I'm running a tuned ecu w/ 10k redline, anything over 8k rolls smoke. going to install a catch can, but for now i was wondering if anyone with a similar build knew what to run?

get bungs put on your valve cover and do the block fittings on the back of the block and do a 4 or 6 port catch can setup and run brad penn or valvoline vr1 oil, preferrably brad penn. try 10w30 and straight 30 and se what you like more. use honda oem oil filters.

alright. yeah someone told me to run 20w-50 and i thought that was a little ridiculous...

is valvoline better than rotella? or just significantly cheaper?

weight will depend on your bearing clearances.

right, amoung other variables and conditions.

if you like science, i know i do! checkout blackstone labratories. you can have your oil analyzed by them for $25 and get an idea of how a certain oil is working out.

alot of people seem to like rotella(i guess cause of the price). ive never used rotella. you can get brad penn oil for a good price if you buy it by the case. try looking up prices by the case for these oils

I ran rotella in my diesel f250 and it was great, but for a setup like yours I like brad penn. it's got a good amount of zinc in it that helps keeping a film on the metal and keeping friction down.
Any other oil I'd reccomend a zinc additive with because most shelf oils don't have much zinc due to govt regulations I think.
Weight and viscosity are up to you and change with climate, operating temps and engine setup.

Read this: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/faq.php?faq=haas_articles

If you're like everyone else and don't have time, I'd suggest a 0w-40. There will be zero difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 at operating temp fyi.

Break in - Valvoline 10w30, use a good oil, but a convential oil...i choose valvoline for all of my motors.

I recommend using VR1, Valvoline syn if its off the shelf. 50w is too heavy, if you used stock bearing clearances, more then likely a 20-30w will be fine.

If you're in a cold climate area, the first number is important because its the weight of the oil when its cold.. you'll want a smaller weight, 5 would probably be more then likely fine.

brad penn here until i switched to e85
now im going with rotella
and weight depends on climate and clearences like stated earlier

I dould love to stay with brad penn but it doesnt mix to well with e85, supposdly it turns to gel as stated by others and even on the penn grade sight it states do not run with e85.

arias are hi-tensile forged 4032 if I'm not mistaken.

I used new Honda OEM bearings, but I've recently noticed its not high rpm causing her to smoke, its anytime I'm at or near WOT. This is probably just blowby, but I believe I'm going to run 0-40w, try that out.
