95 Civic Throw out bearing?
Hi I have a 95 ej1 and was driving home when I noticed I heard a humming sound leaving from a stoplight. The humming happens when the clutch is disengaged and in gear but goes away when I engage the clutch. The sound is more evident in 1st gear and slowly tapers off through 2nd and is completely gone once I go into 3rd. Gears all go in fine, clutch still grabs, no grinds. A buddy suggested its the throw out bearing? Just wanting to confirm. I also hear a rattling noise when I get into higher rpms like a plate vibrating in between shifts sometimes and if I'm on the highway then the vibrating metal noise can be heard, but unnoticeable unless you're really listening for it. It sounds like it all comes from around the transmission area. Is this all related to the throw out bearing and is a clutch replacement going to solve the problem?
i'm confused. does it make the noise when you have the clutch pedal depressed (disengaged) or when you let off the pedal (engaged)?
if it is when you push the pedal in, that is a throw out bearing.
if it is when you let go of the pedal, most likely it is a bearing internal to the transmission, most likely an input shaft bearing.
