Icon6 Want to turbo my mini-me but dont want to blow it up

i have a 92 hatch vx. i am currently running what i belive to be a stock d15b2 block with a d16z6 top end. i am running larger injectors(440cc i believe), a high volume fuel pump and a fuel cell in the back.
i want to buy a spare motor and build it up with forged bottom end internals, titanium valve springs and retainers, port and polish, and then turbo it. from what i understand the current setup is running about a 11.78-1 compression ratio.
If i build a d15b2 block with vitara pistons and scat connecting rods with thicker bearings, will the compression ratio be to high for me to run 12-16psi.
any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks

It wont blow up , but you are going to need a good tuner the problem with high comp turbo build is timing and detonation

You can't really guesstimate the amount of psi you can run without the knowledge of the size turbo you are going to be using for your build. Look around at some other single cam turbo builds on ht to get a general idea on the turbo and size you want to go with. Also, I wouldn't really worry about the psi you can run until you have come to the conclusion of your power goal for your car. Once you do that you can build your motor to meet that power goal. Hope this helps.

You can tune higher compression. Your tune/tuner has to know his **** and be spot on!!!! The tune is a non-negotiable item here. You cannot get away with a basemap.

FIRST!!! Pick a horsepower goal. Know what you engine is capable of sustaining and go from there.

SECOND!!! Pick a turbo that will flow enough CFM to get you to that goal. PSI doesn't mean **** to anyone but the tuner. PSI is a means to an end. NOT A GOAL!!! ALSO make sure that the turbo you pick will spool up at the RPM you want it to. This is where your research and due diligence comes in.

THIRD!!! Pick a set of injectors that will be able to supply MORE THAN ENOUGH fuel at the power levels you are looking for. That Also means upgrading the fuel pump as well.

FOURTH!!! Pick a tuning platform YOU or YOUR TUNER is familiar with. It makes no sense getting a Neptune RTP if your tuner only tunes Hondata. That will equal BAD TUNE.

FIFTH!!! DO NOT try and reinvent the wheel. If you do not understand how turbos work or just don't WANT to know and just want to get boosted, FIND SOMEONE ELSE'S BUILD AND COPY THAT PART FOR PART!!! Do not try and reinvent the wheel. It's been done.

SIXTH!!! Upgrade your clutch. Skip all that stage ****. Just get a clutch that will hold the torque you will be producing. It's that simple.

If your budget is junkyard level parts then go to homemadeturbo.com and browse THOSE forums. If you want to do it RIGHT, go to the FI subforum here on H-T and READ!! Don't ask any questions and come off like a noob. They'll skewer you in there if all you want is someone to just tell you how to do it all with no research on your own. I suggest you read the go-fast link in my sig then do a little window shopping over at Go-Autoworks to compare full blown kits to model YOURS off of.

Knowledge is power so empower yourself.

grumblemarc hit it straight on. Also having an experienced and competent tuner is definitely a must.

With a good tuner, and Hondata it should'nt be an issue.

there is nothing wrong with building a high compression turbo motor if u do some research there a few guys who have done it the higher compression the faster it will spool what ever size turbo u chose . I've had a few brews but " hillclimber" did a z6 high comp build and he said it reacted as a na motor lil to no turbo lag. IMO no turbo lag is better. but to answer your questions as someone previously stated. we can't give u any answers till we know your goals/set up. hope this helps
