Hi guys well I've recently aquired a 92 Civic and since then it has had a weird idle problem. Let me explain to you, when I first turn on the car it will idle at about 1500rpm and eventually dropped down to about 500. Now the car shakes a bit but I know it won't turn off on me. But when I turn my headlights on the RPM jumps to about 900 and it feels like it runs better that way. I don't know what it could be. Have any of you guys experience something similar. What could it be IACV? Alternator? distributor?

 

IACV i would be my first stop. 500 is a tad low i think for an idle

 

That's what I would think too, weird thing is how the RPM goes up when the headlights are on.

 

put a slight load on the engine, causing it to idle up.. mine does that but goes from 80 to 1k then slowly backs down... but i also have HIDs

 

oh ok i see that, im not very experienced comes to when it comes to cars. Would a be hard if i tried to clean the throttle system by myself?

 

yes i had this problem to i just go my part IACV but there are 2 of them i think..

 

would your car also idle up once you turned your headlights on?

 

any other suggestions?

 

Check timing. And air.. on your throttle body has a screw.. use a flat head and tighten it shut then turn it open 3 full turns. Make sure your distributor is in the center
