Default 92 Civic VX high idle only with headlights on.

my vx idles fine nice and low until i turn on the lights and it usually idles around a 1000. I know they go into a compensated idle when the engine has a load but jumping up to 1000 is definitely too high, curious if this could be adjusted or is something faulty? thanks.

Adjust the idle speed. See FAQs sticky.

"Nice and low" diagnostically means nothing. Get an external tach, and see exactly what your car is idling at. Specifics.

Nice and low as in low like a d15z1 is supposed to be. if its idling around 500-600 which is normal then jumps to 1000 with headlights on i figured it would be something other then adjusting idle speed itself otherwise i would have just went through the procedure to adjust it. Not sure if there was a voltage regulator or something alternator related that senses current to tell engine to pickup rpms to compensate.

You aren't listening to what either of us are telling you. It's a well known fact that the OEM tach, if you even have one, is horribly inaccurate. Get an external tach. Find out what your idle speed is. You might be idling too low, which could cause exactly the symptoms you're having. Do I need to spell it out more clearly for you, or are you going to listen to advice given now?

Except that i have, even though what was said is very little to begin with. Regardless if the ******* tach is off a little i have been around enough vehicles, motorcycles anything else with an engine to know around what rpm its at, and if the rpms damn near double instead of increasing around 100 or so for compensated idle then that is what led me to believe the possibility of it being something else...

If where your getting at is that if the idle is too low, then with a load on the engine it somehow idles higher than normal then i dont see how it was so hard to say that in the first place.

Yeah, you really need to hook up a proper tach and post the redings Sometimes the cluster tach is just a decoration with regard to accuracy.

Tell that to the other guy, where the confrontation started. Start at the source, nothing civil about what he said.

He asked a reasonable question, and you followed with an insult. Please get your thread back on track by refocusing the discussion on tech.
