Default Time or Shift based boost on AMS NLR 1000

So those of you who use this controller which setup do you use? I know all of he FWD Honda's are manual, that's why I'm asking in here.

This is going on my S400 67mm SRT-4. It's still a 5 speed.

The reason I'm asking is because I talked to a guy who runs this controller in his auto SRT-4, and has for years, and he said time based is the way to go. I have no reason not to believe him, but just wanna get some opinions from others on here.

Here is how I currently have my controller setup. I have a micro switch to a ground that is completed when I press my staging brake handle. This controls my launch boost. Then I have a switch behind the clutch pedal so once in activation mode it will count the gears with every pedal push.

I tested it on the dyno and just drove through the gears and when I got to 4th I did a pull, and the controller knew it was in 4th, and it ran the exact boost I commanded. So it seemed to work. But I'm thinking maybe it could be different when it's coming off the launch control and not as accurate.

So any input anyone can offer is great. I have no problem setting the car up on time based, so if it needs to be done then so be it.

Thanks

Simple enough. Thanks Rick. Hope to see you again in NC again next year.

geez. all those unnecessary switches. time based seems better for that for sure.

Yeah the switches do make it a bit more involved, but I love the "set it and forget it" aspect of boost control. I'll have to play with it some today after I get done with my this dyno appointment.

I'm referring to it running the commanded boost. Obviously the ramp rate and amount of boost will change from track to track.

We tried time based before. But since the track conditions here sub par. We ended up messing up the runs.

So we opted for shift based and fine tuned it. Suited better for our conditions here in PI.

chances are you had a ramp rate that was way off in either direction (too agressive or too lazy)

when setting up a time based boost table, always refer back to a time slip. this can give you a good idea of where you want to roll the boost in.

i also attempt to recall the best i can, where- what happened during the previous run. i suppose a good datalog takes all the guess work out of it, so setting up the table based off of the data should get it pretty close. although track temp and conditions change.

I used it yesterday in shift based mode because I had no time to mess with the controller due to being busy at the shop. It actually worked great but it will def benefit from me setting it up in time mode. I just used the psi per second to help with bringing boost on in 2-3. Ran gate in first. I fucked my 1/8th mile up by shifting into 4th 1500 rpms too early. First time the car has shifted like it should all season and I was in shock. Lol.
