Preparing for a Sohc Turbo (D16Z6)... What do I need to prepare?
I just wanted to know what parts I need to install or replace before I go ahead and put on a Greddy kit. Will a turbo still be okay on a motor with over 150k miles if I make upgrades and replacements?
Your wallet.
Just put it on the stock motor. Buy another D16Z6 and put in some LS rods with JE pistons.

if your set on going with the greddy kit for sure instead of a home made kit your pretty much set. its gonna come with a blue box for fuel managment but you might wanna check into a SMC and a set of DSM 450 injectors. Just make sure you got everything before you start, and get some buddies to help.
i think it would be better to do a motor swap
someone with a dual over head vtec with portt and polish head in a cx gutted out will probly still hang with you if not bet you in the 1/4 mile.

Hey Swap heads, we are not going to turn this into a swap vs. turbo debate. This guy is asking what to do to prep his D16Z for turbo, so unless you help him with THAT question don't bother posting. I will simply delete any swap suggestions.
I would drop the compression ratio a little, that way you can boost more. It depends on how much boost you want. If your looking at 8psi and lower, you should be ok with current ratio, but If you want more, I would drop it to 8:1. I am looking at doing the same thing, but making the homemade kit instead.

1- Compression test
2- Cylinder leak down test
This will let you know how good your rings are and whether or not you are expereincing any valve leakage.
Assuming all this comes back 100%, I'd still be a little leary of boosting hard on that motor. You're already starting with a 9.2:1 CR so that's a leg-up for you, but as it is, D-series aren't the strongest of the bunch by far, so you'll want to ensure you're running a VERY safe/rich setup. Use the AFC-hack if you wish (if you don't go standalone then this is the route i'd reccomend) and ensure you set it to run richer in the high rpm area. And use GOOD oil!! D16's are notorious for spinning rods

Prep with a greddy kit? You will be just fine working right out of the box. Only thing is I would make sure your **** is running right before you start. If you are losing power, missing, running like crap, a turbo is not going to fix it.
Only put more money into the motor is you wanna boost more or if you blow it up (which is extremely unlikely with the stock greddy kit).

You can also use b16a rods with supra pistons

I have quite a bit of miles on my car and I'd like to run about 8 lbs. sometimes. Should I get some new pistons, cam, or anything?
How much cash do you have? If i were you i would just buy a spare z6 block and build that. You can find them for so cheap.
Plus, this way you can get used to the turbo, tuning, etc. on a stock block. Then when/if it blows replace it with the built block. Less down time too
