Default SOHC greddy kit questions.

alright im going to try to pick up a greddy kit for my d16z6. my motor will be pretty much stock besides injectors/fuel pump/ and tuned on uberdata. but ive heard from a couple friends that the 15g isnt that great of a turbo, after i get the turbo kit installed im planning on building the head and getting a crower stage 2 cam. so my question is will i fine with the 15g or what is a good replacement? im more interested in pretty fast spooling and having some nice top end(i hear the 15g has NO top end?) I drive mostly on the highway/freeway so i need the top end so i was just wondering what turbo i should replace the 15g with?

Its a fine turbo, and it does have top end. Put it on, get the cam, run around 8-10psi and you should be more then happy.

Says who? Find a new tuner if this is a concern for you.

it puts alot of stress on the motor. and what does somebody need to be going 140+ on the freeway for. save it for the track before you hurt yourself and/or someone else

o, just realized i forgot an 'nt' on my previous statement, i hope you got that

o, just realized i forgot an 'nt' on my previous statement, i hope you got that</TD></TR></TABLE> yea i got what you said, but dont worry i wouldnt do 140 anyways. im not even going to be on a freeway rarely so it dont matter, i mostly meant highway runs.

but back on topic, so you guys say that the 15g isnt too small of a turbo? im planning on running like 12(maybe 15)psi daily driven. i want a trubo thats powerful but doesnt take too long to spool.

and a greddy kit on a stock z6 with a uberdata tune shoudl have me around 180-190 WHP im guessing?

Hard to belive but a freind of mine put down 237 WHP with a 18G on his y8 and it was only at 7psi He beat my S2000 from a roll. I would say 18g is the way to go for Internal WG

well actually let me ask what are some good cheap turbos that would fit this manifold? i dont know really anything about turbo sorry guys but thanks in advance for all the help

For what reason? The 15g will be more then capable of 12-15psi daily.

becuase if your donig 15 daily, what are you going to turn it up to at the track? 15 or more is inefficient for a 15g

Here is an idea...how about you also run 15 at the track? Think 15psi is pointless on a 15g? Keep reading and attempting to learn.

no need to get emotional. it just seems illogical to run the same psi you would on the track as you would daily driving. maybe im wrong, i dont know.

its just that i herd 15 psi the 15g becomes inefficient

I'm not "emotional".. I'm getting somewhat aggravated by your random statements that make no sense. Is there some kind of written rule that says

"Thou shalt run less boost on the "Street" and more boost on the "Track" in order to be deemed as 'cool'"?

Edit: Did you bother to even read your own links? Lets see:

"Very untrue information.

The highest dyno numbers for the Greddy 15G is 260whp at 14 psi by yellowturbo on this board, and the highest boost dynoed was 16 psi by maddog20, who made 256whp. "

and in the first link, its someone who "thinks" the turbo dies off at 15psi. Joy. Speculation.. Because so many people actually KNOW what they are talking about around here, right?

well judging by the informaton in the last couple replies im thinking the 15g will do me good untill i get ready to build my block and start pushin 20+ psi? and yes since the closest track to me is like 2 hours away i WILL be running 12-15 in streert and track trims. although i may boost it up a bit for the track who knows.

9.5 lbs of boost on a hondata 3B with 270cc RC injectors @75% duty cycle and 50psi of fuel.

this was several years ago and was a daily driven car for 1.5 years before goign to 440 injectors and 14lbs of bosot making 248 wheel power.

greddy turbos are good turbos. they work well witht he D motor. the newer turbos are slightly bigger and do offer a slightly better top end advantage, but again this is a street car on a stock motor, reving "too much" more than stock redline is kinda pointless as it only ensures the motor will wear faster and maybe break sooner.

my new setup is much different and can go to 11k if I wanted it too. that's a fully build D motor and a different story.

Well with my 18G boost spiked and droped to often and boost levels never were consistant I loved the turbo, but the boost spikes were the reson I had to rebuild my motor.... But this was like 5 years ago in 2000-2001 maybe changes have been made since then...

No, poor tuning is the reason you had to rebuild your motor.. Its no fault of the wastegate. Either you didn't have the car tuned correctly, had the boost controller setup wrong, or another issue. I NEVER had those problems with my 18g kit when I had my 99 Si.
