Default wrap or not the charge pipe

there's a difference in temperature or any help in heat disipation by wraping the intake charge pipe with thermal wrap.

only if you want to continue to keep the heat trapped inside.

you can vent the hood! use a efficient intercooler, hondata thermal gaskets on the intake manifold and p2r thermal throtle body gasket.

yes, i have a precision 600hp intercooler and thermal intake gasket. But the question is i should leave the thermal wrap or not? A few post above the guy said this can trap the hot inside the charge pipe.

where is this heat thats trapped you speak of?

from the intercooler you have cool air entering a hot engine bay. If its thermal wrapped to reflect heat, what other heat is trapped inside?

Oh... boy..

As long as the intercooler does its job, no need..

So I say again....NOPE... You can leave it ( if the pipe is ugly) or unwrap it..

relax, that's what the smile was for. there isn't any heat trapped in there, other than whatever the IAT (mine is usually around 120*, with the sensor on the upper intercooler pipe) is. however, the "wrap" that most people have is exhaust tubing wrap designed to keep heat in, not out. if it is reflective wrapped, that's great, might help, i dont have any experience with that. but if this "wrap" he speaks of is the exhaust wrap, it's not doing anything notable...

curious about the same thing, underhood temps get pretty damn hot. the charge piping gets very hot to the touch at idle with the hood shut. and while at the track sometimes sitting for 5 min waiting in line it can get em pretty damn hot(they moved to the next set of lanes and i was next up, cut off the engine poped hood and it was fricken hot, the charge piping could be touched but not for any length of time)

i have a vented hood, the manifold and down pipe are wrapped which helped a metric **** ton, but its still too hot for my liking

Wouldn't the relatively thin-walled intercooling piping dissipate heat pretty quickly once air starts flowing over it (driving)?

Imo I never thought of heat wrap being able to do much to keep charge air temps down.

120* in the charge piping?!? That's pretty high, I would look into your system. Also, when you sit in the staging lanes, have you noticed other people SHUT OFF their vehicles? There is a reason for this...

Wrapping the piping is unnecessary, unless you have something very hot next to it heating it up. Now if you wanted to wrap the intake pipe to the turbo (if you have one), then that can actually help some. The heat dissipation properties of piping is negligible compared to a proper intercooler. You guys are focusing in all the wrong areas.

im not an idiot. have you ever notced when your in the staging lanes and the guy is pulling cars from your lane you turn your car on and creep up till its your turn to go. when your 5 cars back im not going to turn on and shut off my car every thirty seconds. i push it with my hood open till im about 5-7 cars away.

doesnt help that the radiator is blowing hot air directly onto the piping. i think my under hoods are just too hot for my liking, may be normal but its hotter than i would like

Thermo-Tec Thermo-Sleeve is designed for radiant heat... probably would work better than exhaust wrap. They make it in 2.5".

I will be putting a sleeve on my first pipe off the turbo since it's just a few inches from the manifold.

DEI has specific alluminum looking wrap thats meant to reflect heat,

i've used that stuff before and it works really well.

but if your sitting in line idling, nothing is going to help you

I personally have thought about wrapping the cold side charge pipe in the engine bay to keep it from getting any heat soak from the motor but I would leave the hot side unwrapped for sure. Wrapping or high temp coating the manifold, downpipe and turbo is the most effective use of thermal insulation.

It won't matter unless its close to something hot in the engine bay. if its an ugly looking pipe and you want it to look a little more uniform, then fine. Otherwise....

Yes true it really will not make any difference. If you have some extra wrap then go ahead if you like it couldnt hurt anything.
I just think about how hot my CAI gets just from engine bay heat soak.
