Default GE sandwich adapter loosing seal at the block

So I installed the unit, and have been waiting to start the car till now. In the time it took to prime the car's oil pressure, the damn thing sprung a leak. I don't mean a little leak, I mean about a quart in 30 seconds. A bad leak. So I pulled it off, wiped it down really well, along with the block. So this time, just be sure, I used a very thin film of RTV on the blocks surface. This time, it took about 10-20 seconds of priming, it sprung the same leak. It is spraying oil all the way up, down and around the damn block! I am having trouble getting ahold of GE, but need this car running. Is there a place I can get a new o-ring? Like in town possibly? Or could there be something wrong with the way I installed it? Maybe I need an entirely new adapter? Help with your experience please!

Sounds like your mating surfaces are not level. Check with a straight edge. Is it making full contact?

try it without the adapter. if it doesnt leak then you know the adapter is bad.

it might be possible that it was over tightened and the o-ring behind the oil filter mounting plate was torn, that's what happened to a customers h22, it shot out oil. It's kinda hard to explain but there is a small o-ring behind the actual mounting surface of the oil filter. check it out.

Goodluck.

You say you used RTV. Did you use the correct RTV (super black)? Did you let it set for 24 hours to cure like you're supposed to?

I mean, RTV works fine, as long as you use it correctly. My downpipe gasket is made of RTV because no one local had the correct sized gasket. You just have to follow the directions and let it set up correctly before you go putting pressure behind it.

It was the gasket on the adapter itself, GE got me one really quick, and works fine now. Apparently they the ones they use aren't very high quality, and actually have quite a bit of memory. Over tightened it, and that's all it took. Thanks though guys!
