Oh noooo!!! I just moved my engine after it has been sitting for a loooonnngggg time, and i saw this (see below) on the back. Is this bad? On a scale of 1 to 10 how bad is this, can it be fixed, or is this block trash now??

Is it the back of the block by the oil filter ? Is that a crack ? Put some fluid in the block to see it leaks from there.

yeah its the back of the block a lil under the oil filter and coolant pipe. I cant put oil in it becuase it isnt in any car right now.

Does this look bad? Do you think it will leak? Im pretty worried becuase i will be running big boost on this block......

should i clean it real well and put JBWELD on it or wha?

Thanks

maybe its me, but those just look like std stress fractures that happen in all blocks, ever looked at your tranny, probably have crap like that everwhere. I wouldn't even pay it any mind, i can't imagine it leaking, unless its a big *** crack or anything. But there erally won't be much pressure on that part of the block, all the pressure is in the cylinders.

that is unless there was nothing then you dropped the block and this formed.

If your going to be running boost, do it right and get a block you know for sure will hold up.

ok yeah teh block was never dropped.

This engine is BUILT for boost, and its a b17 so getting a new block isnt as easy said as done. Anyway, the guy i got it from said it ran fine, no problems. I have never really inspected the block closely (like and inch away) so I never really saw these until now.

So based on what is said here im guessing these are just stress cracks, harmless? They can barely be felt when you run your fingers over them, and there is no signs of any fluid anywhere near them, just dirty ole grease....

And the engine is built 'professionally' crowler rods, arias pistons, pyr head, o-ringed and sealed for boost... so im guessin they wouldnt do all that to a block that was shitty

well no they probably wouldnt do that if it was an ok block and they saw those cracks looking at it an inch away... But I dont know if its new or not sooooo you can answer that.

that pic is a little close for me to tell... can you take another a little further away so I can tell the location and size of it better? and maybe put a ruler in the pic to really see... certain things can be repaired.. some shouldnt be tried for safety... I am no expert nor knowledgable.. but my uncle could probably tell you for certain if you got some different pics.
( he is currently getting a block checked out ... a big V8....because of a crack that was repaired in a "non-pressured" zone... but he mentioned something about it might cause problems in overheating because of the irregularity in the block. its all greek to me dude... but he seemed worried about it)

use it to stick your head to a wall

Your looking at the wrong area for a turbo motor you need to check the water pump and cylinder bores, rods rings and pistons

hey guys thanks for all the advice....

YES i know where i should be checking, i was just moving the engine to the shed today and saw these so i was worried and thought to ask.

The water pump ctlinder bores, rods, rings and pistons are all fine, more to the point the rods, rings and pistons are BRND NEW <500miles on the build.

Ok I will see if I can get some farther away shots tomorrow in the daylight... what is magnaflux? Most likely Iw ill have these spot wleded or whetver just to reinforce them becuase i mean this block will be gettin a beating under 20-30psi of boost (at max) .

please ignore my awful spelling, i rush and dont spellcheck
