y7 trans on y8 engine?
I have two cars. An automatic 98 ex and a manual 98 civic dx. I am looking to swap the y7 5 spd to my coupe and the y8 auto to my dx. I have been searching for write ups or any info, nothing quite straight forward with an answer. Is this do-able with all the parts from car to car?
The Y7 trans will work fine on the Y8 engine. The Y8 auto trans worn work right on the Y7 engine though, you'll get a P0715 code dude to a different 3rd gear ratio and it'll shift a little weird.
Putting the manual transmission in the auto car should be fairly simple, and there are dozens of write-ups. Just search.
Putting the auto in the manual might be a bit more tricky, but I think there's a conversation about it somewhere. Once again, just search.

The code Ill get on the automatic car will cause it to shift weird..just in 3rd? or through all gears? Is it bad to have that then? I dont have a check engine light, the car will be used as an automatic beater after this. I've been searching for this swap for a day or two. Im getting all different answers everywhere. Thanks for the info guys!
It will shift a bit weird in all gears. Also you need to swap the engine and cabin harnesses in both cars. Swapping the cabin harness involves pulling the interior including the dash out of both cars (you can modify the automatic harness to work with a manual transmission, but you really need the automatic harness for an automatic transmission)
