Run like crap. You need a P2J ECU.

If you use your vtec solenoid, intake manifold and plug the pin holes on the intake side of the head it'll work with your ecu

hmm i always thought you could benefit fuel mileage from 12valve mode, and have full power under 16valve vtec.

unlike an HX that goes from 12 valve with swirl, to a normal 16 valve low cam.

Can't do ANY of that without the proper ECU.

Which he doesn't have. There's a guy that's been trying to get this to work for months without the proper ECU and still hasn't gotten it working properly.

Here's an auto ECU for half that. Don't know if you can convert it to manual.

If you get it working you get the best of both worlds.

I know what the motor does Ive been working on Hondas since you were 9. Hes got an EX not an HX. Difference of opinion. Id find a way to get power out of it otherwise leave it alone

power and economy is better than power alone. why use a 3 stage head for power? for the money of the head, and ecu you could keep the y8 head and spend it on a cam, and springs, and intake manifold.

^^You're assuming the OP is aware of what function a 3-stage VTEC actually plays in a Honda. I've found that most people have no clue or have the totally WRONG concept floating around in their heads. Kinda along the lines of "If a single VTEC is good, then 3-stage VTEC is even better".

Intake manifold? Overkill! y8 manifolds are the best flowing SOHC manifolds. Honestly, leave the car alone. You put a cam on that head there goes your 3 stage so whats the point really. Put a cam in the motor now it needs to be tuned with what? a different ecu. P2J ECU's are OBD2. The guy never said anything about fuel economy to begin with.

I agree, to me this is like going backwards. Most people dont know what the 3 stage VTEC head does and think "if a single VTEC is good, then 3-stage VTEC is even better"
