Default vtec

i just got a 97 civic lx 4dr.....and it has the d16y7 efi......but i have parts from my y8 and i wanna change the intake manifold and the head and make it vtec....how cani wire up the vtec.....without putting a switch...if any one has any ideas please let me know....

i already got a vtec ecu.....but do i have to run a wire to ecu or what....cause i think my y8 ecu is the same as the y7 but im not sure.

if your changing your head to a Y8 you should change your ECU to a EX model so it's equipped with the VTEC engagement point. And the ECU are both different.
