I recently replaced my PS rack and now 3 of the 4 flare nut connections at the gearbox are leaking. I used crow foot flare nut sockets and torqued the fittings to specifications in the full service manual. After noticing the leak I torqued the fittings down some more but the leak did not go away. I don't want to torque them too much more and risk stripping the threads. You guys have any suggestions to get these type of fittings to seal?

The leaks are very slow, tablespoon every 50 miles, but still need to be addressed.

Extra info: The fittings that are leaking are the two 12mm and the 14mm fitting. The larger 17mm fitting is fine.

I don't think o-rings are used on flare nut connections

 

Yeah if they are compression fittings, so there shouldn't be an o-ring.

You might want to loosen all the nuts and check the mating surfaces. A particle of dirt or worn surface could cause a leak...

 

has anyone used flaretite products? or something similar? I am wondering if the compression mating surface got scratched or damaged during rack replacement. Maybe something like a flaretite product or copper washer would solve this problem?

Just wanted to update this thread and provide the resolution in case someone has a similar problem in the future. I pulled the valve body off the rack to replace all the internal seals. Turns out the re-manufacturer (Fenco through Advance Auto) did not even put in the o-ring gasket circled in red in the picture below. Seems like it is getting harder and harder to get decent quality remand items these days. Just wanted to let everyone know that they should probably stay clear of Fenco remans.

 

damn man, thanks for updating your thread. I've seen engine gasket kits not have some important gaskets that they say come with it. I believe it to be a packaging error by the guy who doesn't give a **** if your stuff leaks after you assemble it with parts he's throwing in a box.
