Default first turbo build and on a budget, about how much to tune?

so im going through my list of parts i need to get and my budget. basically i have an lsvtec with 10.5:1 mahle pistons, eagle h beams, skunk pro retainers and valve springs with a b16a head. godspeed .57 turbo, all bearings are wpc treated, running s300 and have a aem wideband. 750cc injectors 220lph fuel pump
my 2 questions are:
1-about how much can i expect to pay to have someone tune this car for me so i can figure into my short budget
2-is a goal of 400whp realistic with this setup

Not sure why you'd go with a godspeed turbo but expect $400-700 for a good tune.

yeah you can do 400hp but probably not much more. i hope your not using b16 cams though.....

400-700 for tune sounds legit if using a dyno. i street tune cars for locals and friends for dirt cheap 40 an hour, and that usually costs around 200 for them. often times though the first hour is spent by me fixing stuff they either messed up or overlooked like poor vacuum line routing, loose stuff, timing issues etc.. make sure your stuff is 100% good to go so that you arent paying lots of money to the tuner to be fixing issues like this

thank you for the helpful reply. to answer your question about the cams, i am using gsr cams which are basically the same as b16 cams. the only reason i opted for this is because my friend had blox turbo cams and idled like ***, but he switched to gsr cams and idled alot better, although he had a better build with about 550whp. what would be the issue with the cams, and what would you recommend that i save some money to purchase.

Your set up sounds great, except the godspeed turbo....

Plan on $500 for a solid pro dyno tune.

Save up your money, about $700 for a new name brand turbo. Eventually that cheap turbo will start leaking oil or explode. You may be one of the lucky ones that gets 10000 miles out of it, but just dont count on it.

Good luck.

ive got about 20k on my ebay turbo. believe it or not they have gotten better over the years, the quality still isnt even comparable to a garrett but the housings dont crack and blow apart anymore. i would still recommend a different turbo and maybe larger too a 57 trim is almost at its limit at 400hp.

yeah man...u could look at the turbo as an expendable/replaceable part since they're cheap..but what will also suck is wasting money/time having to re-tune after changing turbos. See some good, fun, power from 'em on here tho. That 10.5:1 should help if ur up at some elevation up there in moonshine land.

Rand Paul..woot!

i mean the ebay ones are pretty rough, tolerances are sloppy on the housings, castings are not as nice and so on. also the bearings wont tolerate high oil pressures, restrictors must be used. just not as nice as the name brands is all.

the reason i was going to use the godspeed is because one of my friends purchased it for his prelude, and never used it. he sold it to me for 75 dollars brand new. i will take your advice though and save up for something else. im sure i could sell it pretty easy.

I can post any where in a public forum I please.

Post #3 says it all. Find the tuner and ask him these questions. If you don't know who, then call up the possible candidates and stop asking us what it's gonna cost you.
I also don't see how you can build anything and then wonder if you can reach 400hp. That's *** backwards. The power goal should have been the first thing you started with.

And to top it off you ask about fitting a tune into your budget then don't give the budget.

i havent even got all my parts yet, let alone built it already. thats why i asked if my goal was realistic before i started. and yes i needed to have an idea of what tuning would cost before i spent my money. its none of your buisiness how much i have to spend.

i did not tell you that you could not post here, i simply asked you not to

yet another helpful reply...thank you

You brought up a budget not us.

And not having all the parts does not negate the fact that you are doing the build backwards. Power goal FIRST, then build. And build with some room to grow, not throw parts together and have your build maxed out before you even start.

And is it really that hard to make a few phone calls to get an estimate? I can understand if you did and then came back to ask if the costs you were quoted were realistic but you didn't even do that.

I really don't care if you take the advice or not. Most of the questions you're asking are common sense items. Maybe the next "noob" that reads this will learn from it since you choose not to because you don't like the package that it's being delivered in.

i had my power goal first, i listed the main parts that i have and a few i planned on. if someone told me that 400 were too much i would have rethought some things.the reason i dont call and talk to ppl on the phone is that i am a mute if you know what that means. most of the questions?....i only asked two lol. im sorry that i dont know that i would need to make sure i set aside 700 for a tune its not common sense for me. its easier for my to ask in a forum where i can type. and the package that you deliver may be rude even if you dont know it, for example i asked you to leave and yet you still try to make sure that i feel stupid before you stop.......i already said i was a noob

Mute or not I will tell you this. I have YET to ask any questions about my former turbo build NOR my current one. Why is that? Because all the answers are there. Including estimates for tunes and what goes into them. There's this Forced Induction forum AND an Engine Management and Tuning forum. You could have found answers for your questions in either one.

And most reputable tuners have websites with...wait for it...EMAIL! There is even a service you can use call TTY that you can use and TTY apps for smart phone users. So for every excuse you come up with there is something I can counter with. But that's not what I'm trying to do. Just trying to get you to think critically. If you feel that's making people look stupid then I can't help what you people think.

All you have to do is use some common sense. It would serve you if you just choose to use it.

+1 to that. Every question I've had has been answered by an intelligently parsed search and taking the time to read and comprehend the material, even if it requires (parish the thought) MATH.

Unfortunately, many of the new members that join simply post up a thread and wait:
