Default Turbo build part thread #893989483

I am about to purchase a b18b1 block tomorrow to start a motor build.

First off, I plan on having a shop rebuild a block, install rods, rod bolts balance crank shaft, and anything I should have done to the block primarily with the turbo build in mind, of course I'll get a new oil pump wp etc.

My goal for power is 350-400whp. This will take a long of knowledge, time, and money to get there, but this is the start.

My question, do I really need aftermarket pistons? What reasons are there to get different pistons, change the compression ratio? Strength in the piston itself? Should I change the compression? Can I run stock pistons? Pretty much I don't want to sleeve it. I'll sleeve it once I crack one.

Why a b18b1? Price. Cheap. I don't want vtec, I want the torque of non v tec, same with the head. ~Opinions wanted, will not go vtec

Anyways, I plan on purchasing rods, rod bolts, arp head studs, a good head gasket, probably rebuild a head, or port one?

Will a 38mm wastegate be suitable for this power?

Thanks for any info.

Use an OEM head gasket.

Yes, use aftermarket pistons and rods for that power with that cylinder head. (though you still get the same torque, but better efficiency with the VTEC head, but you didn't want to get into that. )

will take a lot more boost pressure to get that same goal, so be ready to push.

Lets say I wanted to get a vtec head, what else would I need to do to run vtec?

so if I am getting new pistons, what should I do with the compression? Lower it?

Have the engine builder go over your options.. Seems reasonable your goal but might as well go for 450whp on fully built engine.
