Default Trunk Light

I have a 97 Honda Civic EX. My trunk light doesn't work at all and I have no idea why. The fuse is good as its the same for the ceiling light right? And I just replaced the bulb as well. On the same note the high mount brake light doesn't work either. Is there a connection there? Thanks in advance.

Mine works randomly.

I think there is a switch in the latch area that you can check.

Is it on the actual latch? I see a plug coming out of the latch and the actual trunk light has a plug coming out too. How can I check what the problem is with both the trunk light and high mount brake light?

I know when I look at the latch the black cable is for the trunk release, the switch itself might be part of the latch itself.

As for the brake light are you sure it is not the bulb? also check to make sure it is plugged in.

Side note, do you have a spoiler?

The brake light was the bulb, I spaced out and forgot to check that. And no I don't have a spoiler. I have a multimeter, is there a way I can check if the switch is working?

I never found the answer how to test it, you might want to take off the latch see if you see internal wires and test with key on for voltage, that is a guess.

Yes I have an aftermarket radio installed. I'll have to work on the latch tomorrow. I took it off quickly but didn't have time to test voltages or anything like that. Everything looks fine. This is really confusing. I wonder where the problem is.
