b18a1 crower 404 help
whats goin on HT. i just got a 93 da ls teggy. It is completely stock except for i/h/e and a stage 1 exedy clutch. I was wonddring can i install crower 404 or bc stage 2 turbo cams and some new valvesprings and retainers with a completely stock engine. Do i need to get tune or can i just get a chipped ecu from phareable with the mods that im lookng to do. my later on project will be to build the block and boost. i would like a overall hp goal of 350-450 dd. can you guys please help. im open to all info. ready to learn
the short answer is yes a chipped ecu will "work." how well it will control you engine now thats an entirely different story. ideally you would save up for engine management first and then get familiar with that by messing with your stock engine..you can usually gain roughly 15hp by just playing with the stock engine with the software of your choice. THEN you would add performance parts. but yes it will work but why spend 750 on cams and springs and retainers and all that time under the hood to just run a program that isnt customized to your particular engine at your given altitude for your specific use. there are alot of particulars to be taken into consideration and "basemaps" should only be used to drive to the tuner and then junk.
Ok that is clear enough for me. So pretty much if I install no basemap just get it tuned. I'm just tired of being stock and tryin to build a slow budget monster just over time. Not trying to cheap out on anything.

well if you go to hondata's website there is a basic walkthrough of how to tune...very basic. that is why i suggested getting the software and then playing with your stock engine because if it starts to run funny you can just but the stock map back on it. and by map i mean the program that runs the engine. and just play with it make it run rich and shoot flames make it put out more power and when it starts running rough and you dont know how to correct it go back to the stock map. and just do some trial and error. tuning isnt horribly difficult BUT you must read up on it and teach yourself not many people will teach you how because its how they make their bread and butter.
