i red through the faq and googled for a bit but could not find this specific info.
currently there is a d16y7 engine in it that is leaking from somewhere im tired of crawling around and looking for leaks and spending money on countless gaskets and sht.
and would rather buy a good running long block to put in there.
so since im doing that i thought it would be nice to upgrade to vtec engine.
i can chip the ECU myself and convert it to vtec and get a stock basemap from xenocron or something.
but i have few questions unanswered.
1will i have any issues with d15b7 AUTO tranny paired with a vtec motor?
2 does a 94 civic lx already have vtec wire from the ECU to shock tower( i know some models have)
3 do i need to chip it or does vtec conversion from xenocron enable vtec without chipping?

1. All auto D series trannys were basically the same between 92-03 (s24a) for the exception of the CVT (HX). Can't imagine something going wrong there.
2. No. It was only in 92 when all Civic sub-models were pre-wired for Vtec. Otherwise only the EX/Si were wired for it the other years.
3. If you put in the z6, couldn't you just run an Auto EX/Si ecu?
The trans will bolt up but I'm not sure how the gearing differences will react with the ECU. For example 96-00 and 92-95 auto trans can not be swapped for each other as the electrical portions I believe are not compatible.
It's already got a Y7 mated to the d15 tranny, so something was done right with the whole electrical situation.
All the 92-95 trannys had the same gearing. The y7 tranny came with a 4.357 final drive (92-95 had 4.333 fd) but the rest of the gears were the same as the 92-95 trans. The y8 auto trans was really the only one with a closer gear set than the rest of D series auto trannys (but kept same final drive as the y7). Will that final drive make that much of a difference?
So if the z6 went in, ex/si ecu went in and vtec was wired up...you would essentially have an auto EX conversion dealio

Not true, the EXs are geared differently, same final drive but OD is geared higher on the EX trannys to drop the RPM on the highway since the larger engine had the power to haul itself along without revving so high. Shift points are also a little different IIRC. The D15B7 auto tranny should actually work better than a Z6 auto tranny. I would strongly, strongly advise that you get a stock automatic P28 though.

so a chipped P06 with p28 basemap would not be same as actual p28?
doesnt the ECU also control shift points etc in this model

anyone can answer that? i dont want to spend money buying another p28 when i can convert this one myself.
just want to know if its gonna act exactly as if i had p28 in it.

I want to say no. If it was a manual it would be perfectly fine. Generally speaking tuning software for Hondas does not support automatic transmissions.
It does.
It does.
I could probably find you one, I'm looking for one myself.
Actually got a D15B7 swap in trade, thinking about throwing a Z6 head on there for a high compression mini me swap. Glad I found this thread cause I was debating on keeping the B7 auto trans.

just to make sure i have a 1992 civic dx sedan with stock d15b7 motor. im doing a d16z6 motor swap on it. since its a 92 civic
1)do i have the pre-wired vtec?
2)do i still need a EX/SI engine harness from shock tower to motor????
3)will the harness from fire wall to ECU plug n play with a p28 auto ECU
