d16z6 not labeled vtec???
I have a 94 si with a d16z6.. says honda vtec on the valve cover.. I just got another d16z6 but the head just says honda.. I was told it was out of a 96+ex.. are there any d16z6 engines that aren't labeled? the Block is stamped, but I wonder if someone slapped a non-vtec head on it.. or is it an older motor?? Thanks!

Just look for the VTEC solenoid on the head. The D16Y8 is a VTEC engine, on the intake side only, and there are no VTEC logo's anywhere.

92-93 Civic Si/Ex didn't say VTEC either.

the 2 last years of every generation they'll say VTEC on it. for example the EG 92-95 only the 94-95 years will say VTEC the 92-93 will not say VTEC same with the d16y6 i think its only 98 and up that reads vtec on it

well, a 99-00 d16y8 doesn't have and VTEC logos on it anywhere
True
The 2000 D16y8 i got for my swap didnt have VTEC wrttin on it anywhere. i knew it was vtec becuase of the intake manifold and the soleniod. and it said D16y8 on the block

There isn't a lot of difference between the D16Y8 vs D16Z6.
D16Z6 has 9.2:1 compression ratio, 125 hp @ 6600, 106 ft-lbs @ 5200 and OBDI
D16Y8 has 9.6:1 compression ratio, 126 hp @ 6600, 107 ft-lb @ 5500 and OBDII
The main external difference in the intake manifold.
