Shift boot collar
Car is a 98 Civic EX with a Revo short shifter, ebay type-r shift ****, and a password:jdm shift boot. There is a gap between the top of the boot, and the bottom of the ****, where the boot just kind of awkwardly hangs there.
I have seen this Civic Type R shift boot collar around on a couple sites, but I'm not interested in spending 50+ dollars for something so small.

Is there any way to eliminate this gap without the boot collar? I was thinking wrapping a rubber band around the shifter under the boot or something like that.

Use a thick rubber O-ring, works better than any other fix I've heard of (and i've heard them all, tape, zip ties, bottle caps, etc) put it on higher than it needs to be and as you thread the **** on it will push the O-ring down.
