Default New to this Honda stuff

Hey guys, didnt see an Intro forum so I'll do it here. Just bought a 93 Integra LS 2 weeks ago. Car came with cat-delete pipe, high flow muffler, crappy ebay intake, coilover suspension, and some 16" wheels (GSR i think?).

I know little to nothing about Honda's or what people do with them. I bought this car for practicality, but still wanted somethin sporty to drive and lightly modify. I learned a little bit from skimming the forums. Having just come from an 04 Cobra with 450rwhp, I know one thing: this car needs more giddy-up.

The main thing I want to know is what can this B18 handle? How much boost, RPM's, etc? My buddy is sellin his unused turbo kit for $300, I just need a turbo manifold and intercooler.

The more info, the better. Thanks, Mike

Actually, let me rephrase my main question: If I turbo this stock B18, whats gonna break first (Rods, bearings, etc) and how much boost is gonna make stuff start breaking?

I have access to another B18 engine for cheap, it's just missing the crankshaft. Does anyone make stroker kits for these things?

What are the best websites for performance parts? I bookmarked a few but I don't think theyre very good.

"How much boost can it handle?" is an unanswerable question. If you don't know why, you don't really understand how turbochargers work.

"How much power can it handle?" is somewhat answerable (though I don't know it offhand).

You have much reading in the forced induction forum to do...

is a pretty answerable question. Any Honda Guru should be able to quick-reply a 2 sentence answer.

If you don't know, don't respond. Thanks.

people have been making 300-350whp on internally stock b18b's for years now. the key is in the build and tune. if the engine is healthy beforehand, i'd be more worried about breaking axles than something inside the engine giving out.

I would say 10lbs of boost should be safe, i've seen 12 on stock blocks.
I ran a ls motor in my civic for awhile and ran a 75shot of nitrous with
no issues. The weak part is the tranny, the diffs are weak.

you can boost it safely at like 10psi on stock internals and daily it, but i would do a compression test just to make sure your motor is healthy

The point is that there are a lot of different ways to get 10 lbs of boost. Depending upon turbo trim and other factors, 10 psi might be safe with one setup while 6 psi might be dangerous with another.

Bottom line is you'll have trouble safely putting down more than 250-300 whp on stock internals. Obviously as power starts to rise you start to run into more problems, but the first things people usually do are to put in strengthened rod bolts and head studs. Strengthened rods, pistons, and sleeves are next. IDK how well valve seals hold up. It all depends on what kind of turbo you want to run, what kind of power you want to make, and where you want to make it.

Pretty much everything you can think of has been done on these cars. Because internals are all fundamentally swappable among all the B-series engines (bore differences notwithstanding) and there's a big aftermarket, you've got your choice of stroke lengths, cylinder sizes, and compression ratios. AFAIK people in the Honda scene don't really rely on kits because everything is so interchangeable. But if you do some research and ask the right questions in the FI forum you'll have no trouble figuring out an engine build that suits your wallet and your power goals.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Especially Gagnar, that was exactly the response I was lookin for.

I winded up buyin my friend's turbo setup for 250$. Its all cheap stuff, nothin name brand. But my goal is only for a mild increase in power. I'd be more than happy if I made 200whp. The turbo is a 56 trim. I *think* the wastegate is internal, already set to 7psi or so my friend says? Anyways, once I have everything I need, I'm gonna set this up as safely and properly as possible. I already did the compression check and its about normal for its age. I'll slowly run some Sea Foam through it and I'm gonna use Lucas Oil in all my oil changes, which should improve the compression a little bit.

Also, I'll be pickin up another LS engine, minus the crankshaft and oil pan, for $50 in a week. That one I'm either going to use for parts in case I blow something, or if all goes well, I'd like to stroke it to a 2.0L and set it up for natural aspiration.
