Default Used gt2860rs vs new t3

I can buy a used Garrett gt2860rs they had 15K miles on it (25.000km)
Or I buy a brand new Garrett t3 42.48 AR 60 trim.
Same price I think.

It comes on my stock z6 daily drive and it will boost 7,5 psi.

Not that post made much sense, but if you had a choice between a 60 trim and a gt2860rs on a d16z6 , the gt28 is a no brainer, much faster spool and can make killer power for a d series

a 60 trim if thats what it really is would be really laggy on a d16z6

the 2860 would be my vote. it's a great size for your d16 and a better turbo

Oke thanks, but it doesn't matter that the turbo is 2,5 years old?

Ball bearing is inherently a much more reliable design

Check to see there's not excessive shaft play (side to side, in and out, wheels contacting the housing). If there is, or it shows signs of dumping oil out the seals, stay away. A rebuild is nearly the price of a new turbo.

In many cases a ".42/.48" 60trim T3 will be a rebuilt unit. They will last if they are a decent rebuilder, or didn't reuse damaged parts.

There's a reason why. For the sake of discussion, I'll only show this.

From a source I will not disclose because I have no intent of starting any battles; just my opinion and experience as to why I like the steel ball-bearings over the ceramic ones.

130,000 cycles - steel vs ceramic

The Ceramic ball (silicon nitride) on the right hand side has much less thrust loading capacity in the presence of high thermal ceilings. The ball just does not cope with high temperatures and high loads at the same time. The Ceramic ball will not last as long as a steel ball

you have any wear tests on the journal bearings? precision touts the 360 journal over garrett, but, is it as reliable 50k miles later on a street car? or in racing conditions for that matter?

The only tests most people can gather really (without significant investment) are basically user data from older turbos being brought in for repair and replacement. Garrett also has 360 degree journal bearings, but only on their models above your typical 50,57,60 trims.

50K is nothing for a properly lubricated and installed turbo to cycle. the only differences that occur between the 360 and 270 was use (and abuse) not mileage. The more thrust loads and boost pressure each turbo saw, the more the 360 degree system shined.

Thanks, I think I will go for the gt2860rs because the powerband is better.
