screeching ... basically, higher RPMs = louder/prominent noise. what is wrong with it?

i have a used compressor i want to swap in, but i rather leave it all untouched and fix the ac compressor while it is attached to vehicle with refrigerant still in system (stuff is expensive).

 

Loose belt?

- is this serviceable?

- or should i replace compressor?

it all works... just makes noise and car runs like crap with it on.

 

Do you hear the screetching constantly or only when the compressor turns on/engages?

 

I had the same problem at one time.. it was the pulley and the bearing that goes in the middle

Same thing is happening to me, the compressor is making a screaching noise. It could be that the bearings are going, like grumblmarc said. Just make sure you get it serviced soon because if the compressor seizes, than you could have more problems.

 

i called the dealer and they said they only service the "clutch" etc... the bearings are in the idle pulley right?
