Mine has the same issue but after I get it started if it drops below 1k rpm's it dies unless I give it gas. bump for a solution.

Car? ECU?

Are you able to keep the engine running after it starts? If so, does it run poorly? Any CEL codes? Are the plug wires installed in the correct firing order?

car 94 honda (eg) sedan dx
ECU: p06

yes... after i get it started, it runs like a dream. idles smooth... does not run poorly, but does feel weird around/between 30-50mph. not sure if it is engine related because it happened in the usdm d15b7 and the jdm d15b.

changed the fuel filter/plugs... i got a cap and rotor on the way. i am thinking, fuel pressure regulator/fuel pump... going to throw some injector cleaner into the gas tank tomorrow. well, main relay primes the fuel pump every time... i have no idea.

What do you mean by running weird at? Try to give us as much info as you can.

might be suspension/wheel/steering etc... related i just got the vehicle, so i am still in the process of troubleshooting. do not think it is related to the starting issues...

Does the CEL work?

So it's just a cold start problem, right? If so, try cleaning and adjusting the FITV. Not absolutely sure, but I think the JDM d15b vtec may be better suited for a P28 ECU.

how do i check if the CEL works? the light DOES come on when i turn the key... when i switch ECU from the p06 to a p08, the CEL lights up/throws a code (however, i did not run the code and ran the p06 instead)...

maybe this will help:
1) i have to "prime" push the gas pedal a couple of times, prior to starting it.
2) i have to "maneuver" the key in order for the dashboard to light up.

i dumped a bottle of Techron in there...

i will take your word for it Ron and run a p28/automatic ...

By the way ,to prime you just have to put the key on.In fuel injection system ,when you press the accelerator pedal to the floor you are doing the opposite. You cut the fuel. It's called the "clearflood mode".What you can try is after cranking the motor few times (without pedal depressed),remove the spark plug and see if it is wet.We will take it from there.Maybe the ECU commands way too long(rich) of basic injection time.

Let's start from the begining! From what I understood the car won't start at all unless you push the pedal to the floor, right?
Does it do it every time?

I have the same problem...honda civic 99 lx ...check and clean air intake valve, changed spark plug wires. Checked codes...game me oxygen sensor heater and cathalitic converter on exhaust manifold.
check exaust manifold, found crack and welded..tok off and put it back...reuse gaskets and aplied gasket paste to avoid leak.
After i clean up my air intake valve body, my throttle is smooth.
I am trying to clean up my oxygen sensor...270,000 km..by appling heat and blow with compressed air ..and leaving overnight immesed in gasoline.
Have not yet tested my volage and resistance on the oxygen sensor.
reset CEL check engine light..BUT>>STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM

hi guys I just bought a 95 Honda accord. It will only start when I push on the gas pedal. Once its on it runs great but if it drops under1 rpm it dies. I also cant drive it for to long because the cat converter over heats. Before I bought the car it sat in a women's driveway for 8 months.

I would like to say i had the same issue every time my ignition coil got weak. it will usually fail soon after . Ive had the issue at least 5 times in different vehicles.. the problem is usually caused by bad ground from head to front grill area. i always have a backup coil now but i get cheap ebay ones and two distributors so i can switch them out fast. of course they all had distributors, 2004 civics and newer do not have distributors , each plug has a coil .
