What is it doing when you try to start? Just cranking?
I had a issue with the ignition where I would start the car and as soon as I let off the key it would shut off, and sometimes when I could start it, I would be driving and it would start cutting out. Turned out to be bad contacts in the little ignition cylinder for position II.

Re: (ColinMc)
bought a new ignition coil about a month ago cause the old one quit and now with the new one it starting to shut off would it poss. be a defective coil.
and would a old dizzy cap cause it to lose spark . The cap didnt seem bad when i put a new coil in but the rotor look little rough but i didnt think that would make a car just shut off whie it was running

It's possible, but typically when the coil fails, the car will instantly die and not restart. It's also possible that you have an ignitor (ICM) problem or an ignition switch contact assembly problem.

Yes, a badly worn cap & rotor can cause the exact symptoms you're having.
When was your last ignition tune-up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires)?

Trust me, it will...A bad rotor will make your car shut off while driving. I bet if you get those parts replaced your car will be back and running fine.
