LS/Vtec ---------> reliable?
i've been reading about LS/Vtec lately and was trying to decide if i wanted to slap a vtec head on my b18 block. I just wanted to learn more about the swap. My main question is reliability and what to do to build it right. thanks.
i had a "stock" gsr head slapped on my "stock" b18b block with 130,000 miles. had that setup for 3 years. no problems. even squeezed on it too (55 shot). revved it to 8000 once in a while too.
opted for an all motor setup. so now i have a b20/vtec with all the goodies. i currently have that setup for a year now with no problems also. daily driven.

if it built right it can be very reliable
by building right i mean
change all crank bearing, new thrust washers, all new gaskets, stornger rods, vtec oil pump, vtec water pump, all new o rings, and pretty much dont rev past 8300 and you should never have a problem

Build it right and find a good person to build it. It will be cheaper to do it, and do it right once, than to blow up your motor and have to do it twice....plus if done right, it will be much more beneficial.
thanks for all the info guys. This helps a lot. i wanted to find out more from the people who've had LS/vtec for awhile tho. I was also wondering what kinda head you used and what would be the best in your opinion. I was thinking GSR.
Oh yea...you know what to get heads that are good quality and for a good price?

Talk to DRFlickner on this board, he's had his ls/vtec for a while. He also ran it with his LS tranny for a while then got JDM SIR w/ LSD. car was quick still with the LS tranny but after he got the other one it was like night and day!
