Default Will this fit or is it compatible? (ENGINE QUESTIONS)

I have a 1990 Honda civic DX that needs engine replacement. It has the standard d15b2 engine currently in with a auto tranny. I went to a scrap yard and found a 86 with engine still intact will that fit and match up to my tranny?

Or should I buy some guys 1990 Honda civic SI for 500. That comes with a 2000 Honda civic Engine.

no, nothing before 1988 will work or be worth swapping into that car...the $500 deal sounds much better, but should still be checked out

Are my parts transferable. Could I put my automatic transmission from the DX in the SI with the 2000 Honda engine.

Anything can be done with enough time and money. It would be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Would it be worth learning stick, keeping the entire SI putting the D16y7 in the SI and just driving it stick?

Or Should I take the Automatic attached to the D15b2 in my DX and put in the SI.

(Which only Diffrences really are the Sunroof in my eyes.

learn stick. In my opinion you feel more power, and plus its more durable too. It may not be worth only if you live in like a hectic commute.

I would go stick then. The durability would be better plus you will have more fun.

But keep in mind its gonna be a pain to convert it to standard.

Also another opinion would help from someone who owned an auto tranny from honda, I never owned an auto from them so I can't speak for how good they are, but all the autos from the domestic side do funky things as the mileage gets higher.

I have had several Honda auto trannies with well over 150K on them and never had problems with them before swaping them to stick shifts.

You are better off to learn how to drive stick, once you master it you will never have to worry about what kind of trans a car has.

how about 230k+ I don't remember the mileage on the op's car but I just would feel bad if he got done with all that and then his tranny crapped out on him.

ed's are EASY to learn to drive, putting an auto into the si you'd have to swap body harness's engine harness's ecu's, cut a hole in the exhaust tunnel since the hole for the cable on the auto shifter is plugged up on a manual car, move the rear trans mount over on the crossmember...

just learn to drive stick, before you know it you wont even realise you're doing it

As with everything - it all depends on how it was taken care of... I had a 91' Civic Sedan DX with over 260,000 for a mill car. I beat the hell out of that thing for a couple years, sold it to a co-worker and a couple years later the car has over 300k on the stock automatic transmission. The car has had a couple engines, but still the same transmission. Personally I think the automatics (mated to the appropriate Factory engine) are bulletproof.

Same with Honda manual transmissions (aside from the clutch - nature of the beast). I have had Chevrolet transmissions last over 300k as well - so whoever said the crap about domestics is flat out wrong. It all depends on how it was taken care of with maintenance and how much abuse it is given on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong - going to easy on automatics isn't good for them either...
