What are some preparations to make to my car if I will not be driving it for 6 months? I heard to put a full tank of gasoline, disconnect the battery, but is it necessary? It will be sitting in my garage.
i would have thought that the petrol would go stale after that long sitting in the tank! Other than that, just put a car cover and remove battery so you dont drain it. Why dont you just start it up a couple of times a week?
or if you're actually leaving the car and won't see for six months, do as mr_munro suggests, but before you start the car, whip the plugs out, disconnect the sparks and turn the car over for a bit to let the oil pressure build up before starting.
Other than that, you could put the car on axlestands to keep wheels off the ground to avoid shaping the tyres.
Cheers

Your tires will have flat spots in them. Either that or go to a local junk yard or craigslist and buy some cheap steelies/spares with tires to throw on it.
I would fill the tank up and maybe use some fuel stabilizer for a piece of mind, but I personally had a car sit for almost a year and the fuel was still fine.
Crack the windows to let some air flow through.
I would condition the weather stripping since it really won't be seeing any moisture for half a year.
Spend some time and grease up some of your bushings in the suspension just so they don't dry out as well.

You can easily avoid the tire issue with just placing it on jackstands so constant pressure will not be on one spot. Also, unless you want a dead/unusable battery, I would suggest getting a battery buddy. It will keep the battery on a trickle charge as needed. Condition your weather stripping, tires, vacuum lines, etc. Anything that is rubber. Honestly, I would run the tank empty with injector cleaner added to avoid gumming up the injectors with sitting gas and fuel line pressure. It is also recommended to put a dab of oil in each combustion chamber after pulling the fuel pump fuse and turn the car over to relieve any fuel pressure.. I have a garage queen twin turbo mkiv supra that sits for extended periods of time, and have not had any issues...

run some staybill threw it, and unhook the battery...
I let mine sit for months at a time and I have never had any issues. Longest was 7-8 months. All I did was unhook the battery, and walk away. Started on the first try, and ran like champ.
