Storing Car for winter is this a good plan?
I plan to store a 95 civic SI hatch with b18c5 in it : )
i never stored a car before and need to know if this is a good plan.
I will be soring it in my garage its a 1.5 car garage NOT heated.
i layed down plastic on the ground for a moisture barrier, then followed by some card boards, and carpets.
I plan to change the oil and filter before it goes into storage. aswell as wash and detail the car.
i will be putting in a fuel stabilizer
i will take out the battery and keep it at home charged by a automatic battery tender
i will add some sheets under wipers so they dont damage.
i will add some sila packs (spelling) to absorbe moisture from inside the car.
cover the car
I will start the car on the second week of every month so it warms up for about 10 minutes.
i will drive the car for about 30 minutes by the end of each month. (storing car for about 3-4 months.
will add more gas and stabilizer after i run the car so gas tank is still full.
when march comes i plan on taking it for another 30 minute drive and afterwards changing the oil and filter. Im guessing thats all.
Im not jacking up the car but since i am goign to move the car every month i should get any flat spots on my tires.
AM i missing anything or do i got it down?
anybody else store their cars?
ps. the reason i dont want to start the car often is because there will be wear in the engine since the head will be dry since oil dips down over a day or 2.
i plan on heating up the oil pan with a hair dryer before i even start it during the cold weather.
ps also i dont know if it is possible for our cylinder walls to rust so ill start it every 2 weeks. Just in case.

That seems like a reasonable, well-planned storage routine. You should be fine, though you probably don't need to start or run it so often.

you think so? at first i was planing on starting the car every week. If anything i will just start the car once a month let it warm up for 10 minutes and take a 30 minute drive.
Does that sound better?
i dont have no problem doing so but im unsure if anything will happen to the cylinder walls.

You probably don't need to start it or run it at all, especially if it will only be a few months. One site recommends the following:
Take the spark plugs out and put some oil into the cylinders. This will prevent the cylinder walls, pistons and valves from rusting. Regular motor oil is good or you can get a spray can of fogging oil from a marine supply store. Turn the engine over by hand six or seven times to make sure the oil coats everything.

Thats a good plan. but not totally needed, My bagged truck set for almost 5 months, bumped the switch a few times to make sure oil was up there and it started and idled fine. My Camaro sat longer then that, your plan would be MORE then sufficient

many people say dot do anything just park it take the battery it out and forget about everything. im notl like that i need everything to be perfect.
i read that aswell. I was thinking about the fogging oil and stuff. But i don't have a torque wrench and probably wont know how hard to tighten the spark plugs.
But i might take that in consideration aswell. . i dont really know.

you'll be fine i store my car for about 4 months out of the year. i just start it up about once every week or two and let it run for 15-30 min.
fuel stabalizer could work or u can just put premium in there and since your running it every month just put some new gas in it everytime(mabey a gallon)
but sounds like you have a solid plan.

after giving it some thought i wont use any fogging oil in the cylinders. . because if i did that there would be no point in starting the car, and that would result in flat spots in my tires (possibly)
well thanks for all the help guys.

The first one (Junior) will be perfectly sufficient. The Plus has a higher output and slightly different/better "software", but you won't need it.

I've never dealt with the company, but there are also a few other sites where you can find the Junior for around $31.00 shipped.
