Default 2001 LX tranny expectancy?

my car currently has around 150k on it, i am having no issues with the transmission and recently changed the fluid. I know these cars are notorious for the trannys failing so i was wondering around what mileage do they usually fail. Im debating selling mine and getting a manual 01-05 civic. I am also about to drop around $1000 into it fixing the a/c, brakes and doing a preventative timing belt and oil pump. but im scared right after i do this the tranny will start slipping with my luck.

In all honesty, you should consider yourself lucky that it's lasted this long.

You could always do an automatic-to-manual swap when you transmission dies.

In my experience with transmissions going this long without a fluid change when they get a fluid change you lose all of the metal flakes that were actually giving the tranny some traction. I have no idea how your car has survived a change after so long...

I know because I had a nightmare dealing with my 98 Accord Coupe and it's horrible autobox.

That's why I just went manual because it's a massive weight off your shoulders...

I would sell the motor and get a manual because it is, as you say, a ticking time bomb.

My '01 EX went to 215k miles on the factory trans. But if you look on carcomplaints.com, many don't go that far.

I did regular drain and fills.

is it 100% gaurenteed all 01 ATs will break? I do know carcomplaints.com has 700 reports, yes 700! And its the #1 worst complaint! Thats just horrible.

I know 01-03 ATs are affected by having the defective 2nd gear clutch pack carrier. But what about the 04 or 05 ATs?

Actually, it's a 100% guarantee that ALL automatic transmission will eventually fail.

Anything with 'wear' parts eventually fail.

MarkM01 So true, the car won't last forever even the most caring owner is going to have to replace parts. Sometimes us Honda owners start to take stuff for granted because we are used to such ridiculous longevity. However, Honda really did get their auto's wrong for a good while, and even to this day I am sure I have read that the auto's are jerky and pretty awful.

Now that I have finally got over my fear of driving a manual I wouldn't go back, the costs involved in maintaining an auto box are not worth.

What do you think of an civic tranny built in japan? I found a local shop selling one, says it should be much better quality than the ones here.

01-05 LX or DX transmissions will be direct swaps.

Oh crazy. So first slipping was only temporary? Im gonna pick up an 05 tommorow and first thing im doing is taking it to this trans specialist to have it inspected before installing. Any worn parts will be replaced. Even though it only has 22,000miles on it i aint taking any chances but to only have perfect new parts and clutch packs in it.
