Junkyard Transmissions
In the process of building up my DD; I'm looking into a conversion from auto->manual. I know I hear a lot about not doing it, too expensive etc etc, but I'm kinda gun-ho on it already.
My question is: I'm thinking of going to look for a Tranny et al in Junkyards (and maybe some WTB ads), is there any thing from a visual inspection that would be a red light? And that same question for any of the parts really.
I plan to get a manual ECU, Clutch, etc via vendors but as anything that can be pulled from a salvage would be neat.
Thanks.

Turn the mainshaft by hand while shifting through all the gears to make sure everything feels smooth. It is always best to open a used transmission for a complete inspection before installing it.
Im in the process of building a 91 Civic Wagon and im in the same boat and so far we have looked at a couple junkyard transmissions and for the most part they seem kinda unsafe without knowing the history of the car.
