i've heard that open dump is good for a few more ponies up top, which would make sense. the only cons that i know of are the sound and the dumping of raw exhaust into the air (which doesn't really make any diff if you're cat-less)

it makes a ton of difference than even not using a Cat-less.. But otherwise, that's about right.

I have been looking into doing this as well and I haven't found much info beside you may loose power but barely noticeable. Shodan can you confirm? I have also read that if you are to do this that you want to recirculate it about 18" or more downstream of the turbo. Just wondering if it will cause much turbulence even with a 3" dp and exhaust.

Could you please clarify this? I was trying to understand but your post wasn't all that clear.

If you do a search there is a good thread on this done years ago. You do loose power. An external wastegate can control a bigger turbo better.

Honestly, from a person with a dumped wastegate, the power isn't worth the sound. If you want your car to sound ridiculously loud under WOT then it's for you, but if you want a car that is more discreet, I would forgo the dumped wastegate.

If your running open dump on low boost the gate cracks open more often and sounds like ***. If it were me low boost mild setup-recirculate Higher boost levels-dump.

Im running high boost and am using a closed dump. I dont really like the sound of the wastegate open, it sounds worse than a Harley. Plus I like the fact that its a little more sleeper-ish, thats also why I coated the intercooler black and didnt cut my bumper out... But thats just my opinion.

Has anyone done back to back comparison or any comparison what so ever? A friend of mine has an Integra that has 2.5" dp and exhaust with a recirculating dump tube and it will not boost above 16psi. I think this is more to do with the size of his exhaust more than his dump tube. How much of a restriction is this with a 3" exhaust?

That's strange. Mine is 3" all the way and I hit 20psi no problems.

my closed loop dumptube on low boost sounded great I thought....If your car is a daily driver I would strongly recommend a closed loop dumptube.

wanna be quiet then use a closed loop dump and a cat with a resonator and what ver else you can do to keep it quiet while choking the turbo out not allowing it to breath the way it needs to I mean in the end it is what ever you want.

op asked the differance and its obviouselt power potential like most of us know it is.
