B16a or B18c?
I've been saving up for a LONG time and i finally have enough money to get a new enginefor my EG civic . I can get a B16A2 for bout 2.4g's and a B18c5 for about 3.6g's. should i get the b16a or the b18c5.....i was thinking of getting the highrevving type r b18 but i could get the b16 and a turbo it for a about the same price....what do you guys think.......?
I guess that really depends on what you want to do. For the price you listed I would definitly go wiht the b18c5, thats a steal. It would also be the best application to NA. If you were boosting I would skip the b16 and go for nonvtec. Personal opinion though would go for the b18c5 hands down. More relaible power, and less maitenance required. THats just my opinion though.
peace,
peace,
a b18c5 for 3600. omg....do you have to even think about it. perhaps your thinking of the gsr. anyways, do the b16 cuz i got one and i beat b18c all the time. 1.8 might feel faster, but 1.6 flows better and catches it in no time. with i/h/e or r cams, youll win.
where are you ganna find a turbo for 1000????

thers a friend of mine in the KC area who sells jdm engines and i can get a real discount......the B18c5 (typre r not gsr) has little over 30k on it, B16 is new and he would add a turbo for about 1.5g. i've been thinking and i'll probably get the B18 becuz i would then have to get a turbo timer, blow-off valve, and an intercooler. Thats way to mcuh fucken money.....thanks for the help
I would say get the c5 and go all-motor. Raise compression, bolt-ons, fuel components, ya know, the works. A turbo brings a lot of hassle
, but if you are willing, then by all means turbo that bad boy.

I hope you're talking relative, cause a 1.8 would wax a 1.6's *** anyday in similar setup. If you can get a GOOD C5 for that much money, jump on it;make sure the motor is legit and its in good condition. Or go for the GSR. If you have that much money to spend, theres no reason that you should be looking at the B16...the 1.8 will always have more potential than the 1.6, no matter what you do...
You shoulda used the search button, cause 99% of the time the answers you're going to come around to is this;
If you wanna play with your local N/A 1.6 and 1.8's, swapping one of those motors in your car would be nice...
If you want to even slightly compete with fast cars, you'd have to go forced induction...
Look into B18B/B20 w/ forced induction. Do it right, and it'll be cheaper... and faster. VTEC doesn't really mean much when you're going into these types of setups... if you wanna get the best out of your B-series Honda motor, this is what you have to do...
