fuel pump primes when it wants
Hi everyone im new to honda tech. i have a red da9 i just got and am planning to give it a fresh facelift. when i got it it was running a little rough and had a shitty interior and is also in rough shape body and paintwise. since ive had it i replaced the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and wires. also flushed the radiator and gave it an oil change. i recently replaced the interior and then when it was ready for the road (or so i thought) it started giving me problems. at first it would die during idle and while driving. i cleaned the throttle body an that helped a bit. then i changed the main relay for the fuel pump, fuel filter and the fuel pump. since then it hasnt died while driving but now the fuel pump is giving me problems. the car will crank but the fuel pump will only prime when it wants. i found an alarm by the main relay and i was wondering if that could be causing the pump to not prime i didnt get any remote for it so i cant turn it off. or maybe i have bad ground somewhere? any help would be apreciated.
get yourself a voltmeter, and check the 12v wire (mine is a thick yellow with green strip) to see if there is power for 2 seconds when you turn the key to the on position.
current goes to the pump and everything, lights dont dim so its not the alternator or battery... yesterday i was messing around with it and it felt like the main relay didnt click when i turned the key... just on the second click... could that be it? its under warranty so i went to return it last night and am supposed to have it by 12 today. hopefully its the relay... this cars giving me a headache
ok i put in another relay and it seemed to fix it. then an hour later the pump wouldnt prime for about 20 minutes. then primed an gave me no trouble for the rest of the night. my car was parked facing uphill and the oil light was on for a bit. i read somewhere that a low oil level can cause the fuel pump to not prime. is this true?
Low oill level will not prevent fuel pump from priming the fuel system.
If you get power to the fuel pump even when it does not prime, then the problem is the fuel pump, or connections to it, and probably was all along. 94

im gonna do a check up on my connections and clean them. hopefully that fixes this annoying little problem. what should i be looking for? bad ground for pump? could a dirty ignition switch be causing it too?
oh and i didnt mention but the car was sitting for a while before i got it (about a year, is a oregon car, barely fixed the dreaded cowl and tail light leaks) the previous owner lost his liscence so he never drove it and pretty much neglected the car.

my car shut off after i went for a drive around town. i had to tow to a buddies house. the cars fuel pump shut off and wouldnt prime anymore. im gonna trace the wires and see if theres a bad connection.

I just resurrected a '96 GSR my daughter and I picked up in 2002. Pulled the pump a few days ago, and there was a lot of sour gas and rust. The pump wouldn't budge.
I flushed it out, dissassembled the pump assy and wire brushed everything, reassembled with a 255gph unit (TRE), new hoses/clamps/filter, and it now runs great.
My guess is you have something similar - sitting in a high-humidity environment isn't necessarily the best thing...
?

i think i found my problem... i read something where a da9 owner said the had wires cut because a mouse... i looked at my car and i think i might have a mouse problem too. im going to try to find any cut wires and clean some connections. hopefully that'll end this nightmare
