Default 98 tail light swap ?

Ok, so I drive a 94 Ls, with the amber tail light corners, I just swapped 98 tails on and now all my brake lights stay on (including the 3rd brake light) and when I hit the break they only brighten a very little. Someone suggested swapping the harnesses (the actual bulbs on the light). One tail light has the 94 harness, and one has the 98.

Has anyone else had this problem? if so, what's up? lol.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that is the problem. Check on your brake pedal on the sensor. There should be a little white foot thing on the pedal arm that touches the sensor to the brakes to let it know to turn off the lights. After time they get brittle and break. I think they're like $3 at Honda.

would that keep the lights on and also still turn the lights a bit brighter when I pressed down on the brake?

My luck with cars, everytime I fix something, something else completely unrelated always brakes, I really don't know why.

Check your tail light bulbs. They are suppose to be dual filament bulbs #1157. Make sure they are the right bulbs. If they are the right ones but bad replace them and if they doesn't fix the problem check the ground.

duel filament bulb. 94I have to agree with the above, it is unlikely a wiring issue, wiring for the tail lights is the same for 94-98.

With that said, wiring may be an issue if there was a miswire, "One tail light has the 94 harness, and one has the 98".

Why is there a 98 harness for one of the lights, or do you mean the bulb socket harness on the light assembly?

You did not say if the brake lights are on all the time with or without the park/head lights on.

If park lights/head lights need to be on, definitely check the tail light ground, if ground is good pull all the duel filament bulbs, [brake/tail light bulbs] and see if high mound brake light still stays on, if not, you have a defective, [probably filaments touching].94

Well I'm not exactly sure what was going on but I switched the harness (the wires + bulbs) from the 98 back to the 94 so both tails are using the 94 harness and everything works. My friend suggested that it was due to the swap form OBD1 to OBD2.

IDK

It is possible and probable as it now works.

Looking closely at the wiring diagram there is a small diff. in wiring for the tail lights, on the 94-97 it looks like the inner and outer park lights power lead is paralleled at the lens harness and on the 98 they are paralleled before the lens harness.

Does your 94s tail light harness plug have the same number of pins as the 98 lens assembly harness plug? 94

yea, everything looked the same so I assumed it worked, idk.

Maybe it was the combination of the 98 and 94 harness that did it, though it doesn't explain why the 3rd brake light came on. Oh well, with both 94 harness' in, they work just fine. Kinda one of those unsolved mysteries now.
