Default tail light stays on

I have an issue with one of the tail lights on my 97' integra. The light stays on even when the car is off. Anyone have any idea why?

Are you sure it is a tail light and not a turn signal or brake light? 94

Umm, which is it, brake light or tail light???

The brake light and tail light, [park light] are two different filaments of the same bulb, [dual filament bulb].

How about the rest of the lights at the rear, tail lights, brake lights, signal lights, back up and licence plate lights, are they all working properly.

The only light circuit that has power at all times, [ign. switch off] is the brake light and park light circuit, the brake and park light circuits are common for left and right, which makes me wonder why only one of the possible four lights are on. 94

Check the brake light switch, Its the one above the brake pedal. They normally go bad and either leave the lights on or not at all.

ok i think its the brake lights. I checked the other light and the filamanet is burned out and I tested the light socket with a new bulb and it works so I'm actually experiencing the same problem with both sides. I put a bulb in and the light comes on automatically. Also the back up lights are not working either.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check into this tomorrow when I have more light. If the switch is bad do I have to order one from the dealer or is this something I can get from the auto parts store?

Most likely the brake light switch pin stopper has fallen out, [broken] or brake light switch needs adjusting, [adjusted too far back].94

Thats what Im thinking. The car sat for a while and I had the same problem with the clutch pedal switch. (the rubber grommet thing fell out) So I'm assuming the same thing probably happened to the rubber grommet thing on the brake pedal. Thanks for your help. I'll let all of your know what I find out tomorrow after I look at it.

FYI, there is also a rubber grommet on the clutch pedal that often breaks and makes it impossible to start your car. For that, and for this, I simply use a small round magnet. I read about it here as a temporary fix, but I've continued to use them as a permanent fix. The first time, on the clutch switch, the magnet slid and I had to redo it. But once I got it centered correctly, it's worked for several months now.

Regarding the brake switch and grommet. Someone told me a few days ago that my backup lights didn't come on. When putting the magnet on the brake pedal for my tail lights tonight, I noticed another switch on the clutch pedal that seemed to be missing a grommet. I've put on a magnet to see if that's what controls the backup lights.
