vtec not working right?
hey honda tech! so, i have a 99 civic coupea ex with d16y8. its is a super clean car that im using as a daily driver. im trying to do some small things to "tune it up" and get it to run perfect. i just replaced the dizzy cap, rotor, ignition coil and plugs. but the thing im not sure about is the vtec, i dont really feel it or hear it, i have no check engine light on but i dont think the vtec is really working.
does anyone have any pics or advice to clean the vtec sylinoid on a d16y8? thanks

well, ive never owned a car with vtec, i dont really know what to expect but at the same time, it doesnt feel any different then when i had my da integra
You can't really hear or Feel the VTEC from a stock Single Cam! I can tell you this from experience, but if you put in an aftermarket intake, the VTEC is much louder. Still no power gain, but you can sure hear it
You are definatly gonna feel VTEC. Its the greatest force on earth!!! lol JK man. They are right. On a stock single cam you arent going to be able to hear a distinguishable note or feel anything different.

on a single slammer vtec is heard from the intake on a dual like a gsr or h22 you will hear it from the exhaust that is why you cant really hear it from your civic. Also its probably because its stock.
just going to throw this out there, but wouldn't this thread be more effective if you name reasons as to why vtec ACTUALLY isn't working, instead of why or why not you'll hear it?
