after your car sits for awhile your battery is going to drain and when you start it you alt. is going to make your engine idle speed higher till it charges the battery back to normal than drop down to 6-800 rpm if this isn't your case you can adjust the throttle cable and back it off.... or mess with the idle adjustment screw on your tb....
A fast idle on cold start-up is normal. As long as the engine slowly returns to a normal idle as the coolant warms up to operating temperature, there isn't really a problem. That's the way it's designed to work.
Does your engine idle at 700-750 RPM once warm?

Its the fast idle thermo valve (FITV). Just took it out on my car and cleaned it. Dont know what car you have but on my 95 civic dx its right under the throttle body. Its totally adjustable, look it up, dont feel like explaining lol.
15 minute job, nothings wrong though.

As was stated in post #2, you must include this basic type of information about your car and engine in the First Post or Title of a tech thread. A failure to do so will lead to closure or deletion of your threads.

Although this sounds normal....if you have a FITV...it's definitely not a bad idea to clean it...
Look at "Helpful Links" in RonJ@HT's signature box....^ there's a good write-up on how to clean it....
